Hi Spoonking

I was breathless on too little levothyroxin, dont quite know the reason why

I get breathless when I am under-medicated. It's like I cannot get enough air into my lungs. I want to take deep breaths. I've heard it referred to 'air hunger' which I've seen is a symptom of hypo.

That's interesting. That used to happen to me when I lived in the SE of England. I put it down to air pollution, as it stopped when I moved away. Now you've made me wonder if it was yet another symptom that I simply dismissed.

I had it last year when I needed to put my dosage up. I kinda felt like my heart missed a beat and I needed to take a deep breath. Very weird feeling.

Oh my goodness - could this be connected to me having 'asthma' from around the time my thyroid problems started? I hadn't realised there was a connection.

Best wishes

Yeah, I have that!!!....asthma for no reason developed 6 years ago, the inhalors don't work and has got a LOT better since I've started levo....doctors don't register it ... "must be because the steroid inhalors have started working" (only I've stopped taking them unless I have a really bad attack so haven't taken it for a few months now and just stuck to the blue one which eases the panic....)...sound familiar?

I used to get air hunger before I was diagnosed and thought I was going crazy.

My daughter also gets it but isnt keen on getting tested. I just think its the beginning of the long journey for her so if I recognise any other symptoms I'll make sure she does something about it.

It used to plague me and I would almost be scared to go to bed at night because it mostly happened then and as I just dropped off to sleep; this happens mostly to my daughter too.

Definitely a sign of underactive thyroid.

Breathlessness can ALSO be a symptom of inadequate levels of vitamin B12.

or just "normal" anaemia?

Indeed!

Which is also vitally important for thyroid hormone metabolism.

Do you sigh a lot too , I do, don't realise I'm doing it my family says and we now think its through lack of air.
