Thyroglobulin

Recent bloods show thyroglobulin levels raised slightly to 9. Got to have an ultrasound and pet scan on lungs so wondered if anyone else has had similar experience following total thyroidectomy for follicular cancer?

Feeling a little deflated and scared what this might mean.

I haven't got experience of this as Tg hasn't risen for me and is around 6 but I wouldn't get too worried. It sounds like a slight elevation and it's being followed up. Remember thyroid cancer can be monitored, tracked and treated successfully.

I've got PET scan, Ultrasound and MRI booked before my follow up with specialist in Feb so hopefully keeping on top of things. Stay well and thanks for your reply.

Hi -Still no lab results from recent test but ultrasound yesterday showed lymph nodes appear clear but there is some residual tissue near the original tumour area although I had a complete thyroidectomy last September. Waiting on PET scan to see tissue in more detail and to check no spread to lungs. Will be seeing my oncologist early next year to discuss further. How are things with your treatment if there is some lymph node spread ?

Its impossible for the best of surgeons to remove every little bit of thyroid tissue according to my current Endo and he even stated that yes even a little bit of leftover thyroid tissue could still produce a very itty bitty amount of thyroid hormones but not enough to make a difference ( 🤷‍♀️).

Im currently in the who cares mode with this thyroid cancer diagnosis mess since these 4 years have been anything but easy.... the thyroidectomy pretty much destroyed my health and left me with never ending pain from Psoriatic Arthritis which I developed after my thyroidectomy, prior to surgery I was a fit active human now Im a limping whimpering 100 year old and (I'm only 50).

I know how you feel - before my operation I had no symptoms apart from a small swelling by my Adam's apple. Now I feel tired and have less energy and stamina,my hair is thinner and like you I feel ancient (I'm 63) and now it's possible that there is still some remaining cancer to deal with !!
