I have just purchased a squatty foot stool in the hopes it would help my predominantly IBS-C, but it doesn't seem to be any help and is a very uncomfortable position to be in, disappointing after reading all the successful reviews. Anyone else found this or useful?

Squatty Potty
I don't have one but can see the logic. I would say persevere as your body has to correct itself after years of sitting in a different position.
Before the toilet was invented the whole world used that position, and some still do.
Yes this position is definitely beneficial for you with constipation and also recommend holding your arms above your head at times as this opens the bowel out. Watch your posture when going about your daily routine, especially if you sit at a desk!
As Kerry above says lots of water and also lots of vegetables.
Slippery Elm, aloe Vera juice, psyllium husks, linseeds soaked overnight in water and drink in the morning are good natural measures to consider.
Also try a good quality probiotic.
Hope this helps
I was told by the physical therapist to sit with my feet on a low stool while on the toilet. I was given a breathing exercise to do while sitting. Leaning forward with a straight spine, take 3 slow breaths, not holding or straining, Breathe in for a count of 3, breathe out for count of 3. Very helpful.
Thank you all for your responses. I will persevere with the stool. My bowel symptoms are very much IBS as although I tend to constipation I suffer with ab spasms, pain and a lot of bloating, also the feeling of 'never quite finishing', so a lot of discomfort. I do drink a lot of water and take soaked flaxseeds, but still can't get things going when I need to. I have suffered from all the digestive problems of IBS for very many years and tried just about everything, it certainly has had a very big impact on my life. Such a badly misunderstood and underestimated disorder.I wish this 'community' had existed years ago, the support is invaluable, no-one really appreciates what IBS is like unless they have experienced it.We must stick together and continue to help each other.
Good wishes to everyone
