I was recently diagnosed with IBS - very bad stomach pain down the right side and across the bottom of my stomach. My pain is constant and has been so for quite some time (2yrs+)
I have been prescribed mebeverine which seems to be having little to no impact, but I am also getting very bad dry mouth at the same time. Is this a common side effect? If so, does anyone have any tips on overcoming it?
Thanks,

Just go to the pharmacy and tell them you have dry mouth. They can give you a spray for it. I just did it for another reason. Also, mouthwash without alcohol can help.
I've just been talking about this, I've had very dry mouth symptoms just before and during a IBS flare up for years. I dont take Mebeverine or any prescribed medications. I do take a few vitamins though due to restricted diet.
Hi. Bear with the mebeverine as it will hopefully start working and give relief. I have it and it works really well. The dry mouth should soon clear up on it's own. I combat it by always having a bottle of water handy if possible or suck mints/ boiled sweets to stop the mouth from drying out.
Hi ,if you have given the mebeverine plenty time with no improvement I would go back to your doctor, it didn’t work for me either. Neuromodulators like Amitryptiline work well in small doses but no good if you have Ibs c or slow transit as they can slow things down further. Anyway see what your GP offers don’t suffer alone, and let us know how you get on. Best wishes Mutley
