Bile acid malabsorption
Hi I’ve had BAM for a few years now and I have lost weight too. I didn’t weigh very much before being diagnosed and now I weigh 43 kilos. Some people put weight on so it’s a bit bizarre! I developed BAM after cancer treatment. Im on binders too which help but still have terrible problems with urgency. I also take Imodium when I need to travel. My weight loss was fairly steady over a period of time but my GP doesn’t seem at all bothered! I was told to follow a low fat diet - no more than 40 grams of fat per day over 3 meals which is very hard to follow! Also you need to have yearly blood tests to check on your fat soluble vitamins as the medication can effect your body absorbing the goodness from your food. I have 3 monthly B12 injections. Good luck with your appointment in November.
I was diagnosed with BAM 3 years ago after the scans 1 week apart. The Docs are baffled because BAM causes diarrhoea but I suffer a lot from constipation?? Therefore I cannot take any of the usual medication for it. My IBS has Improved with diet but I still get a lot of embarrassing wind, to the point that sometimes I'm afraid to go out.
I have constant battle with very loose bowels etc.. I don't have a gallbladder either. Taking Colsevelam seems to help regulate bowel movement. Try it and see
