Bile acid malabsorption
Hi, I was just wondering if you take cholestyramine powders. I asked my dentist about oral hygiene as I take a sachet in the evening, she said always wait 1hr after taking before you clean your teeth.Just wondering as perhaps the liquid, if you take this form of bile binder is making your gums sore.
I expect you know that bile binders can also make us low in vitamins. Low vitamin B can cause sore.mouth. Your GP should test your bloods annually for this.
Hope this has been helpful.
Take care Pollyboo.
Hi, I was recently diagnosed aswell 8 weeks ago with BAM, I take colesevan tablets twice a day and have felt a great improvement however my diet is still extremely limited and has been over the last year. I’m waiting for the test to be carried out in January. What are your other symptoms? Sonia x
How can I find out if I have bam?
I’ve had ibs for about 6 years and I have developed receding gums and quite bad tooth ache. The dentist suggested it might be due to acid reflux, but I rarely get that. He also said it might be partly due to grinding my teeth, but I don’t do that very often, unless it’s in my sleep.
My teeth are very sensitive and easily start to ache a lot when I go on even slightly windy walks. The cold also exacerbates it.
Could this mean I have bam or could it be something else?
Thank you,
Cicely
I don't have BAM, and didn't have it when I also had gum problems in 2021 on two separate occasions. Unusually, I developed oozing pus from a gum, (and then a couple of months later from another one.) The dentist took X rays and found nothing wrong with the tooth roots etc.
My oral hygiene is brilliant so I couldn't understand it. My diet was a bit restricted but I was still managing to eat (and I think absorb) quite a good number of nutritional foods.
There could have been some slight need for more vitamin C as I could not eat fruits. But I also took a vitamin/mineral complex A-Z..
The dentist gave me a chlorhexidine mouthwash which I am not sure was working properly though I followed instructions.
Then, I tried something else.
I bought some colloidal silver (nano silver) which has particles so small they can enter the skin and mucus membranes.
I rinsed with this (and spat out) 4 times a day. I held the colloidal silver in my mouth, rinsing it between my teeth for as long as possible before spitting.
The gum problems absolutely disappeared, and didn't take long to go. They have not come back.
I don't advocate actually drinking colloidal silver (though some say it's safe to do that) but it worked brilliantly for my gums. It also worked brilliantly for a very sore anal area, and cured that in 4 days! That hasn't come back yet either. It also cured a very painful deep split in the skin of my thumb, and that was completely healed in 2 days! Those things usually last me over a week.
