Symptoms
Hey there, Ibs differs from one person to another one might experience one symptom and another might not I usually don't experience sweating. Are you experiencing any other symptom?
As has been mentioned, symptoms really do vary.
“Generally” bloating and discomfort in the abdomen area are perhaps the most common.
IBS-C & IBS-D = again generally the most common forms of IBS.
But, that is too simplified: having joined here this really is your best source of information and it’s better to read and research on-line (trusted/known medical sites- not Facebook etc!)
Sweating at night can be a symptom, but that could also be many many things.
Sweating at night does occur for me, but only if I eat very late or shortly before going bed.
I hope this is of some help to you.
IBS Network is a fantastic site.
I have had IBS for many years over 30, I stared night sweats about 15-20 years ago I thought it was related to the IBS but it turned out I was diabetic, some morning when I got out of bed there was a wet shape on the bed the shape of my whole body.
Not sure of your age but could it be perimenopause or menopause by any chance? I've never experienced night sweats with IBS, but have experienced the former.
Hi Chrissy24, sympathy. I was initially told my hot sweats were menopause related (and this was years before I hit menopause) but I've discovered it's related to my gut. If I want to pee I get a hot sweat, if I get indigestion I get a hot sweat etc. Nothing else, it's always gut related. I don't know if you just getting them only at at night is definitely caused by your ibs, but I wouldn't be surprised - do you notice if they're linked to how your gut feels when it wakes you up?
hi there, I’ve been an IBS sufferer for about 20 years and get all sort of symptoms, I do get night sweats and nausea but also the horrible feeling in my stomach, like waves crashing over me, everybody is different so it’s hard to comment really, do you have any other symptoms?, IBS can be so debilitating so I do feel for you. Hope you get the answers you need, there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people on here so I wish you the best
Sometimes just heralding an IBS flare up I have gone hot first then cold, like a classic "hot flush" but I am way past meopause now and haven't had hot flushes for years. But yes, I have suddenly gone too hot. I wonder if that could be happening to you during sleep, if you are having a flare up?
But re: night sweats. I have had them randomly since my mid 30s, and didn't get menopause until I was 50. I remember going to the doctor as I was scared about them, and he ran a blood test which was all normal.
Anyway at some point I worked out why they happened. If I was COLD while asleep. Yes, the opposite of most people. I solved it by wearing stuff in bed and keeping warm! I daren't sleep naked or wearing some sheer tiny little thing or I would be swimming.
I'm not so sure about the menopause theory, I'm a man and get the same experience in the night of terrible night sweats with thumping heart rate when I wake in the night to go for a Pee. I get back to a soaking wet cold feeling bed, enough to put the electric blanket on to dry it out and warm me up. Maybe I'm going through the Manopause or something, but it's unpleasant.
