Do you mean the stool has got stuck kind of half way in and half way out?

Or do you mean it's stuck inside and you can't pass it (constipation)?

If the stool is that far down, the best thing you can try is a glycerin suppository, or if one doesn't work, try two.

If it's half in and half out, then the best thing you can do is manually remove as much as you can from the outside. Using a surgical glove and/or a few pieces of toilet paper. Don't dig inside your anus though. It is the most awful uncomfortable feeling. It happened to me about twice in my life and yuck....

Then it will slightly settle though will still feel uncomfortable. Give it an hour or something then put a suppository in. That should work hopefully?

The foods you are trying sound good, but it will take some time for them to work their way through and motivate a bowel movement. Maybe you could also try working from "the other end"

Hi this happened to me on Xmas day I was expecting the family for dinner so rushing around..I had been on naorixon for pain never again I was sat on the toilet 30 mins it felt like I was passing a baby so big can't understand it as I go everyday but maybe 2 days I was in agony I tried everything possible it was like yours half out but felt as wide as a baby ridiculous honest ...I finally passed it but was bleeding so much had to put a sanitary towel on after I had a quick shower ...never had I felt pain like it and I've had 2 children 36 yrs ago lol anyway blood stopped I've obviously ripped my onside to streds I was also worried as I had pelvic floor surgery 8 months ago repair anterior and posterier and I was worried I had undone all the good work and 6.500 of my hard earned money ..I still feel a bit unsure but I've upped my pelvic floor exercises and my collegan vit 4.....sorry the moral of the story is ..it happens to most of us..I've found sit on the loo with a cup of boiled water and take magnesium good quality one that helps constipation..my consultant told me I had to keep my bowels open so I do take lacido daily too..but painkillers are a devil for me..hope these experiences from others help.. I know they do me..x

I know, it's unpleasant to have that not finished feeling. And hard to relax because of it. It's also not nice to have a feeling of not being quite clean down there.

Do try to sleep if you can though. That will help your body if you can. Wear a double pair of panties, and if you have a sanitary pad put that inside, or use a folded wad of toilet paper. If you are constipated, there won't be much in the way of 'mess', but it will help you feel cleaner and more confident in bed. If it were me, I would put a couple of drops of some nice scented oil on the outside pair of panties (not so it will irritate the skin), but just to feel nicer and fresher and a bit more beautiful.

And tomorrow is another day. It might be good if you put in a suppository in when you get up the morning. Do you drink coffee in the morning? Coffee can stimulate peristalsis and help with a BM.

Try not to strain and fret tonight. It might be that the body isn't used to 'going' at this time of day anyway, and things might follow a bit more of a natural course after you've slept a bit.

Red dots of blood on the toilet paper could be caused by skin irritation on the anus, or maybe even by hemorrhoids (not sure if I spelled that right!) It can go with constipation sometimes. The skin of the anus is actually more delicate than we think.

Morning Ella1992, I feel your anxiety l too often feel like I haven’t finished a bowel movement and I can sit on the toilet for upto 40minutes using up a good part of a toilet roll and fresh blood spotting from straining and wiping .

I also can experience a nauseous feeling which I’ve found signifies a movement coming in the next half an hour sometimes.

I found that sometimes gentle yoga like stretches while sat on the toilet can work.

Calm breathing, straight posture, engaged abdominals. Raise left arm up to the ceiling then gently bend over from the waist to the right, holding for 30seconds.

Repeat with right arm

Also twisting with hands on hips from the waist left to right, right to left.

Leaning as far back on the toilet as possible and as far forward (head between knees!) All gentle and controlled.

I can’t guarantee it’ll work 💯 or straight away but I feel it possibly can help to relax and open things up.

Good luck

It's not unknown to feel nausea sometimes with IBS. Once or twice I have had almost panic-attack responses from my body related to bowel movements, with heart racing, a dizzy-ish feeling, and a scary "white-out" sensation, with a queer nausea attached and dreadful shakiness.

I learned that is a vaso-vagal spasm. The vagus nerve gets over stimulated. It hasn't happened too often but was weird and a bit scary whenever it did.

It was more likely to happen when I needed a BM at a very unusual time. It happened at 9pm one night a couple of years ago, and I was unsure if it was caused by anxiety, or by my gut affecting the vagus nerve. It did pass quickly.

I came out of the bathroom trembling and shaking all over even though I'd had a perfectly normal BM! I remember not knowing whether I was going to die or not! I had a little shot of brandy, sipped slowly and was fine in 5 minutes! I walked down 1/4 mile to feed the neighbour's cat within 15 minutes! All was well.

But if you have acid reflux, it might be wise to chat with your doctor. Keep in mind that sometimes acid reflux can be irritated by constipation.

Not being able to finish entirely is very common with IBS. It is called incomplete evacuation. This happens to me a lot since I have IBS-C. In these cases, I get out what I can, clean up and leave the rest. Either I will get no further urge until the next day or I will get an urge later on that day, but often I don't get much of an urge to go at all for the rest of the day, but if I need to pee I may end up letting bits and pieces out if I feel something there.

Lots of helpful advice here, but some "mechanical" strategies may help, eg, 1, an even more extreme squat posture - use a higher footstool or box when you are on the toilet. 2, deeply massage the full width of your lower abdomen, or 3, apply finger pressure between your buttocks above your anus, or 4, apply some 'intimate' lubricant just inside your anus using a latex glove or toilet paper. Do let us know if any of the advice works - I live with this problem longterm too!

Hi Ella Try lemon juice in warm water first thing in the morning, it promotes peristalsis. It has helped me enormously. I warm a glass full of water and put a teaspoon of lemon juice concentrate in it and drink it down using a straw ( to protect my teeth), then have my breakfast. Usually can use toilet straight after!

Hope this helps, I know it works for me. You can of course use 1/2 a squeezed lemon, but I find the concentrate works very well.

Hello Mutleyforever,

I have the same problem with incomplete evacuation. It's usually caused by a tiny stool which causes wind in the back passage and embarrassing noises like a balloon slowly deflating! I'm going to try your warm water and lemon solution. Laxatives have drastic consequences for me personally.

I was prescribed Mintec Last year. It works sometimes and some days it doesn't. I buy Peppermint oil capsules from HnB instead. They can settle down the symptoms of IBS.

Try not to sit and strain too much as straining will cause the inside of the anus to swell and this can cause the inner sphincter to go to sleep making evacuation extremely difficult. I've currently got this. You need to take something to soften the stool so you can pass without straining. Or put on a thin rubber glove and some lubricant and carefully try and hook it out manually.Glycerine suppositories are OK but if you use one and haven't passed a bowel movement in an hour you'll need to get medical help as the glycerine can cause damage if it stays inside the rectum x

I have constipation with IBS and I use a micro enema to move the stools. It encourages fluid into the bowel and then the stool passes . I get prescribed by the GP.
