I’ve had mild lower right pain for nearly a year (comes and goes and no other symptoms) and just seen gastro after GP investigated a few bits (all bloods/stool fine also seen gynae as had a baby last year and ultrasound clear) - he said it didn’t sound like anything obvious (I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing!) - he’s referred me for CT scan.
Anyway I have noticed the pain gets worse when I’ve been sitting for a long time or in a forward hunched position (like cycling or driving) - I guess this makes sense but just wondered what everyone else’s experience is?
I’m just baffled as I seem to be fine in every other area (this is NOT a brag at all but I ran a marathon at the weekend with no pain issues so it’s weird!)
Would be great to hear about what others are experiencing!

Hi Sherah, I have exactly the same problem, when I am working or upright I’m ok, but when I sit I get the discomfort right across my abdomen, would be grateful for anyone’s advice, apart from don’t sit down ! lol
Possibly a slight kink in the colon as it is only when you are sitting. Food has to travel upwards on the right side so any slight impeding of it might have an effect. I have three times had lower right sided pain in my life each lasting months but apart from possible colitis the first time in my 20s - I am over 80 now so no scans then - no cause was found except stress and they eased eventually .However I was told that I had a spastic colon which is now known as IBS which we know can be brought on by stress so they may be right!
Hi Trec, Many thanks, I like you was diagnosed with a spastic bowel back in the 70s ! It’s just over the last 6 months or so, that I have experienced the pain when sitting, Thank you for the possible explanation
Hi Sherah, I wonder if it's just when your gut is in a cramped position? Things (wind etc) get a bit stuck on their journey so to speak?
I have discomfort bordering on pain sometimes but low down on the left. I am pretty sure in my own case that something is out of line with my hip alignment and maybe even spine. In fact, I know my hip alignment is pants. It's obvious when I look at my body in the mirror, apart from 2 chiropractors telling me so years ago. So it's likely my colon is a bit cramped up on the left owing to that, and not aligned like it should be naturally.
So maybe it could be that when you ride your bike, lean forward, slump, sit etc, your colon might get cramped up a bit, only yours is on the right.
I guess it depends how bad the pain is. If bad, get checked out in case it;s a grumbling appendix or something?
Thank you yes it could be this! My hips are likely also misaligned due to running and not doing enough strength work! I’ve noticed a bit of discomfort when I’m standing as well annoyingly now so I am wondering if it is appendix. Gastro have referred me for a CT scan so hopefully get a few more answers then! This is all really helpful - thank you to all for sharing!
