IBS Medication

Hi, I've managed my IBS symptoms for the past 12 years with imodiums. I've tried every possible diet and therapy with some success but nothing life improving. I normally manage my symptoms by using a pattern of 6 imodiums every other day and if I'm going somewhere that makes me anxious then I'll take 8 and take them two days a row.

However I've been thinking of trying other medication for day to day symptoms and using imodiums for travel or important events only.

What other medication could I try?

Thanks in advance!

Aarron

Literally the exact same thing I do with the dosage of Imodium. At times I’ve taken buscopan alongside it to get rid of the cramping pain you have associated with diarrhoea but sometimes I’ve also taken pepto bismol. Natural alternatives is peppermint tea but all in all I map out my day dependant on where a toilet is! My mind is a big factor in my IBS and as long as I’ve taken my Imodium and know where the nearest toilet is I’m usually fine!

Yeah my mind also plays a bit part on it. Stress is a big factor. I might try the Buscopan because if I take too many imodiums, the cramps can be a nightmare

Not medication as such. Just kimchi or sauerkraut before every meal. Con amore Bx

I wish this helped me, I've tried many different fermented foods with meals, drinks etc. And not just for a few days, I always make sure to give whatever I'm trying a chance to work. It sucks that nothing "natural" has helped. 😔

I know how you feel, sometimes it feels as if your life is controlled by IBS. I've always found peppermint oil capsules helpful and I make sure that I eat natural yoghurt every day or a Yalkult drink. I have had a course of hypnotherapy which was really effective, particularly with stress related bouts of IBS, can't recommend it enough! Hope you feel better soon 👍

I initially had good success with Hypnotherapy for nearly a year I was not taking as much imodiums and was living life more. Than some stupid events happened and ever since I've never had the same effect which disheartened me quite a bit. Thanks for the suggestion though 😀

I have been thinking of your case and am sorry that you are having such a hard time. How about giving the alimentary canal a complete rest? Bed rest for forty eight hours, drinking only water or flat Coca Cola. Think deeply about your gut and send it good wishes. Then restart with only baby food late at night. Your gut seems to have got itself into a loop and needs resetting. I Think you should talk to your medic about the serotonin levels in your body. The best thing to do is to study human digestion yourself and see if anything seems to relate to your symptoms. Buona fortuna Bx
