Stool test

I have been looking into having a private stool test. Can anyone recommend a reputable company & what is the cost & were you satisfied with the results? Thank you

Are you in uk why not get gp to get one arranged for you

As I just said to rustydog my doctor is not very helpful so I've been looking into things I can do myself. x

What kind of stool test are you looking to do? There is a FIT bowel test to check for blood in the stool, there is a comprehensive stool test to check bacteria etc and also tests to check your micro biome. I saw a gastroenterologist last week and asked her about these. She told me that the comprehensive stool tests and micro biome tests were a waste of money. I have done the FIT test which is good, I am in the U.K. and got mine from the Letsgetchecked website.

Hi Rustydog Thanks for your reply. I'm looking to do a comprehensive test for the bacteria & microbiome. Have lost faith in my doctor, have never seen her in person & getting an appointment is a mammoth task so I thought I'd go it alone. I know these full tests are expensive but I'd pay anything I could afford to ease my IBS. x

I feel your pain. I too have never seen my GP, my original one left in lockdown and I've only ever had rushed 5 min telephone appointments with the new one, wouldn't know her if she walked past me in the street! I ended up paying private to see this gastroenterologist which I can't afford tbh. I've spent so much money, too much, looking for answers for this awful condition. You have my complete sympathy.

Getting a "recommendation" may be difficult. But, after having 2 microbiome tests from one company, I undertook a review of several before a 3rd. I'd he happy to share it's outcome by pm.

Note the costs are similar across the board and in the range of £300. Also you generally need a practitioner for some/all. It's advisable anyhow for explaining results.
