How to find a good gastroenterologist?

I'm really struggling to find a good gastroenterologist in the UK (specifically in the South west). I've been referred to a colorectal surgeon in my local area but they have been extremely unhelpful and aren't listening to my symptoms. I'm willing to go private (although I can't afford it) if it means getting some proper help for my chronic constipation. Please, if anyone has anyone they would recommend, let me know? I believe my constipation is functional and that I have slow transit.

Many thanks

Hello

I live in South West myself and gone privately after feeling humiliated by our beloved NHS doctors.

Private gastoenterologist suggested Blood tests, CT scan, SIBO Test and was told no help could be possible because of my intolerance to antibiotics and foods!!!

Hope you get some answers with your condition.

Check Dorset Digestive Clinic or Nuffield/Harbour Hospital.

Good luck!

Hello dear,, I wonder why you do not have good doctors in the UK specially in public hospitals, even private ones are not as helpful as they should be although they charge a lot of money. I am from Kuwait and thank God we have amazing doctors even in public hospitals where you can see one on the spot and would give you the right diagnosis and medicine. I used to travel to the UK to see doctors for my case but not any more. I really feel sorry to read your agony with illness because I was one of you years ago. Hope all of you feel better and your Government pays more attention to the health sector an it is so important.

Love & Light

Im 66 and got slow transit bowel and constipation with it .pain is terrible . Like you I found gastro doctors where unhelpful . And left in tears after being told he didn’t have a magic wand to help me. I went private and spoke to gastro. There he listened and suggested constella 290 . One a day . This did help me it loosened my bowels . I’ve had all the tests apart from sibo one . I first got diagnosed and the beginning of first lockdown down so helps been slow and non existent at times . I live in Scotland . I hope you get some help .

I’m exactly the same as you , apart from I’m 56yrs old !Im IBS-C & Can’t find a good gastroenterologist either , despite going private as well as NHS & I’m now also under a colorectal consultant through the NHS .

I’ve had to be very persistent in getting to speak to him , but finally got him to send me for a transit scan yesterday , so I’m waiting for results .

I think if we could both find a good gastroenterologist it would be a big help , if I have any luck I’ll let you know x
