Because I want to switch to another probiotic instead of Alflorex and of course want to know it's effect on my health I decided to stop taking St John's Wort.

Hi, just curious if you have ever tried St John's Wort for IBS related symptoms. I just started to take it because it has antimicrobial / antibacterial properties too. I intend to try it for at least 8 weeks to see if it has beneficial effects on my overall health.

Hi meleber all I know about this herb is that it’s supposed to be good for depression , have you tried oregano oil too ? X

Hi, tried oregano oil too but not successfully. If it had some effects I didn't notice. I do take berberine for some years now since I noticed it had some positive effect on my overall health. Berberine has also antibacterial properties.

Depression and anxiety can be a symptom, an effect, when the intestine isn't working properly, not producing enough serotonine. Hypericum has more positive effects like anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral and antimutagenic besides the antidepressant effect.

😁 lab rat/mouse 🐀. Ongoing in vivo experiment as no-one can tell what really is beneficial for me. Trial and error, as a lot of fellow sufferers from IBS experience.

Funny thing .. I just came back from my doctor. I am taking Berberine and oil of oregano for IBS or possibly SIBO. I see some improvement but still have loose thin BMs once or twice a day. Bloating and gas have subsided. I asked the doctor if St John's Wort might help and he gave me a prescription for Zoloft 25 mg. When I researched it last night, I decided not to take the Zoloft. Do you know if can you take the St John's Wort at the same time as the Berberine? I do wish that medical doctors would embrace natural remedies more.

I do take them both. I think I have taken berberine for two years now. Twice daily one tablet of 500mg berberine.

Thank you for your reply. When you say 1 tablet with 500mg and 10 mg berberine. This is confusing to me. I take 1 capsule of 500mg berberine 2x per day. I have not started the St John's Wort but will next week. I want to ease into it as I have just started the Berberine less than 2 weeks ago. I am encouraged by your success to date. I have been experiencing weight loss and feel it is stress of this IBS or SIBO. This site is very helpful. Thank you again.

Hi, you're welcome. Didn't want to confuse you. So to be clear I take 1 tablet of 500mg twice per day, as you do with capsules.

Good evening Meleber

I thought St Johns Wort was for depression? I did use it for that many years ago and it was a great help, I could not take it now thought because your not allowed to take it with Thyroid meds.

Good luck , I hope it helps

Best wishes

Debs

Thanks. St John's Wort is known for it's antidepressant effects. But it can have many more positive effects because it's also antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, antiviral and antimutagenic as I learned.

Because I think dysbiosis is causing my intestinal problems I did start adding it to berberine.

And you're right that it can have interaction with other medications so not everyone can take it without discussing it with your doctor first.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL St Johns Wort reacts with a lot of prescription medicine so please check with a pharmacist before using. I was told off by my relation who is a pharmacist when I said I was looking at St John's Wort. I have a lot of medications I take.

Because I want to switch to another probiotic instead of Alflorex and of course want to know it's effect on my health I decided to stop taking St John's Wort. Due to this very short trial 😉 I cannot tell anything about its effectiveness for IBS related symptoms.
