Can anybody personally recommend a probiotic to take after antibiotics. My guts are worse than ever now!
pro biotics?: Can anybody personally recommend a... - IBS Network
pro biotics?
I found Healthspan Pro20 were good after my last lot of antibiotics. I tried Symprove and Aflorex but they seemed to make things worse. The problem with probiotics is there isn't one size fits all! x
Do you have IBS C or D
I’m one of the lucky ones. I have both with horrible unpredictability 😂
Sorry to hear it binks, I have C with loads of trapped painful gas., pain keeps me awake at night
Same here. As soon as I lie down it gets worse. I try all sorts of positions but nothing works. I bought a tens machine and I don’t like it! Have you tried Movicol? If I didn’t take half a sachet every night I’d be totally bunged up
Mmm, maybe the movicol is giving you the diarrhoea
I was talking to my dietician about the same question this morning. I have not taken probiotics for quite a while, but would like to try them again. She suggested starting off with natural probiotics - a half cup of yogurt once a day or the same amount of kefir once a day. Then, if I am OK with these, after a few weeks there would be a switch to probiotics.
Hi,
All my stomach issues began after taking antibiotics, so I feel for you. I've been taking Renew Life 50,000 billion and I'm currently still on them. Sometimes I would take the 80 billion. Also added kefir and sauerkraut to my regime. In hindsight, I wish that I took time off from the kefir since its dairy and stuck to a tablespoon of sauerkraut for every meal. Then reintroduced the kefir a month or so after
Hi. Optibac do a short course of probiotics specifically for people who have been on antibiotics . They last about a week and cost about £6. I have bought these about 7 times in the past. I have IBS D and diverticula disease and these work for me.Hope this helps and you feel better soon there’s nothing worse than constant gut ache.
I would recommend Optibac. Visit the site and talk to someone. I find them very helpful
edwangy, probiotics definitely have a place in gut health especially during and after antibiotics. However, gut control is important because it may be a leading reason for your symptoms. Our diet contains a variety of foods and drinks for our benefit yet also contain factors working against the major things that control our gut, the brain and vagus nerve. Both require vitamin B1 (thiamine) and thiamine requires adequate magnesium to become bio active. Anti thiamine factors play against this and you may notice flares when consuming them. Search on "krispin magnesium" for causes of magnesium loss. Adequate magnesium is also needed to balance calcium.

Thanks for replying, I've seen your posts before to others. Are you a doctor or nutritionist? I am well educted on nutrition and have qualifications in health and wellbeing and the human body. I know what's going on, I just can't get any help or respite from it. x
edwangy, look for a probiotic in the refrigerated section called Theralac.
Thanks for that. Have you tried them? Just couldn't stand any more gas or pain.
Yes, my wife and I have used Theralac. Her's after a bout of c. diff transforming from Florastor and I just to see what it was like. Without symptoms I could not tell any difference after a month. She seemed to have a return to a normal self sooner than I would have thought .
Body biopics and a pre biotic called innulation
I personally find homemade yogurt helps more than purchased probiotics. If anyone is interested in a simple recipe that doesn't require any equipment, let me know.
