Just wondering what foods do you definitely avoid, I know it’s different for everybody............I’m still finding out, too much fibre for me causes trouble

Have you tried the FODMAP diet it eliminates certain food groups then reintroduces them at a later stage , doing this will help you find out what foods trigger your symptoms. It’s not always a cure but it does help

I have found that Alflorex probiotic has made me more tolerant to foods and fibre. Best to ask to be referred to a dietitian to take you through the FODMAP elimination and reintroduction diet, though I'd try Alflorex first since it may mean that you can reintroduce more foods than you would have otherwise.

I too have problems with healthy foods, also fatty foods, doesn’t leave much really.

Onions for me are a no no!

Chutney is as well and mustard are definite no nos!

For me it’s too much fibre, mango and any stoned fruits, soya products. Bland food suits me after a flare up. I think it’s important to try identifying triggers so you can avoid them.

Lots of fibre for me is good but don't touch acidic foods or alcohol/fizzy drinks

In desperation I went onto the low fodmap diet - it was a bit of a revelation to discover that my extremely healthy diet was actually causing my IBSc. I was very strict on it for six weeks and I was already eating low sugar and gluten free so it worked fairly quickly. Reintroducing the higher fodmap foods has been a bit of a revelation - I already knew I couldn't do cows milk and wheat, but I was surprised that onions and garlic had such an impact as I've always used both lavishly in my cooking. Once I got used to it I found meal planning much easier - I know exactly which fruits and vegetables work best and I've found good substitutes like goats butter, oat milk, the green bits of spring onions and leeks for cooking, and garlic infused olive oil. I have the Schar range of gluten free things as they are mostly fodmap friendly and often made with sourdough instead of yeast.

I also find onions and garlic upset me as does broccoli, pork and too many veg. I am now cutting out wheat altogether to see if that helps as my stomach never seems right these days but I have found that probiotics help.
