Loperamide takes at least four hours to work

Why do so many sources say that loperamide "works within an hour"? After I take it I always continue to poop for at least four hours. Then it settles down and the effects last into the next day, when I have solid stool (never happens without loperamide) or even constipation. Is this the same for anyone else? I feel like I'm being gaslighted by doctors who tell me "Oh this will work to stop your diarrhea" when it doesn't - its only use is as a preventative started a few hours in advance, or even better the day before.

For me it depends on how bad it is, if it's a mild upset stomach, then it works after about an hour and a half with only 2 Imodium, but if it's a bad one then it can take 3 hours and 4 Imodium

Hi, it might be worth you looking into Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM). A good site is GUTS UK. I would send you a link but I 'm not sure how to do it from my kindle.
