IBS query

I have had upper abdomen pain for the last 6 weeks or so. I've had blood tests, an ECG and a chest x ray all of which came back clear. The pain cleared up for about a week but then came back after I went for a run and ate a Chinese takeaway. Someone mentioned it could be IBS. Is there anyone that could share there symptons of IBS so I can see if there symtpons match mine. Thanks in advance.

Have you asked for a endoscopy as regards to your dyspepsia

No I've not. I've got a phone appointment with my doctor on Thursday so will ask him about it then.

Hi Steve, I wouldn't want to suggest what it could be, as IBS takes some time to truly diagnose. Blood tests are one, but also stool sample tests, endoscopy would give you a clearer picture and rule out other conditions.

Personally I wouldn't be looking for treatments for IBS until you have been tested, exhaustedly, for everything else. The symptoms for IBS are so varied but do normally result in either Constipation, Diarrhoea/Loose Stool, over a certain amount of time, unless, or until, managed with lifestyle and/or food habit alterations. Causes could be food related, stress/emotional/nerves/anxiety related. If these relate to you then certainly more tests are required.

When you say 'upper abdomen', do you mean in the middle of your chest? If so, it could be acid reflux.

Yeah I guess it is the middle of my chest. I took tablets for acid reflux but they didnt seen to make any difference.

PPIs for acid reflux can take 1-3 months to work, plus there are many different ones so worth discussing with your doctor.
