My gastroenterologist thinks I have IBS. Had blood work done everything came normal except for CRP 14mg. Does that mean I have IBD instead?

Is CRP short for C-Reactive Protein?

Yes. Only symptom I been having is constipation. I’m currently doing the low fodmap diet it’s been helping a bit.

The problem with that test is that it isn’t area specific. It just shows that there is inflammation somewhere in the body. I hope things start getting better.

high crp is consistent with one but doesn't prove it - your gastro will evaluate further I hope

Thank you for the replies. I have been worried as why is high but I’m now recovering from a cold so I wonder if that could of affected the results. I already got tested for COVID and results were negative.

crp could rise with a common cold - probably be good to retest crp after a while when you're feeling better overall- that will give you a good clue....

So my gastroenterologist call and he thinks I don’t have IBD but he did suggest to retake the test since I had a cold. Hopefully it comes back normal. If it doesn’t then I’m getting a calprotectin test. I rather have IBS then IBD
