Am now on 50mg nightly now, after 10 years of needing incremental increases...I need it for multisystem small fibre peripheral neuropathies (including my GI conditions) . I’m 67 though, and all my issues are very early onset. I love amitriptyline: it just takes that important edge off my neuropathic pain...
I am on a low 10mg dose I take at 8pm. I take it since I had an episode of TGN. I have previously taken 25mg which had been prescribed for IBS-d. Never made a blind bit of difference, as (I recently discovered) it turned out the d was caused by a lactose intolerance. I weaned myself off the 25mg by very gradually reducing the dose, so I started by taking a half dose every third day for a couple of weeks but full dose the other two days, then full dose one day, half dose next, then half dose every day, half dose and quarter dose etc. It took months to come off it but if you don't do it really slowly, you won't be able to sleep!
I’ve been on 50 mg for about 6 years and it helps me a lot with reducing lower pelvic pain which seems to be related to IBS C. IF I forget to take it I get pain and can’t sleep so I don’t see how I can wean myself off it.
I have been on 10 Mg for years now and take it after dinner. It can make you very tired especially in larger doses. I think it has helped my IBS in general. I also take Zoloft 100 Mg. I have IBS C and need Miralax or some other source of fiber.
