Stool colour changes

Hi. Just a quick question. I have noticed recently that I have had some slight stool colour changes. Every now and then my stool has dark bits in it like dark brown/green. This isn’t all the time it is sporadic. I also have quite a bit of undigested food such as pepper skins or veggies. Sorry if TMI. I was just wondering if anyone else suffers the same. It is not black or bloody. I have IBS D & C. My IBS is triggered a lot for me by stress and hormones and once I start worrying it is hard to reset my mind.

See this:

Occasionally, you may see undigested food fragments in stool. This usually is high-fiber vegetable matter, which normally isn't broken down and absorbed in your digestive tract.

Undigested food in stool isn't a problem unless it's accompanied by persistent diarrhea, weight loss or other changes in your bowel habits. If you have such signs and symptoms, consult your doctor.

OK heres my take, not a Dr but boy heaps of experience, a lot of people with mixed IBS like me get stools that are a mixture of digested and undigested foods. In fact sometimes your stool can look muticoloured, ie some light colour with lumps of what looks like hard packed stool. This is usual for me, just saw it today actually. Different foods travel at different rates through the system, and its common enough to have things like grape skins, chicken skins etc that are harder to dijest just pass straight through. Try and take some of the worry away and maybe a visit to the Dr if you are getting overly stressed. Hope this helps..

This is normal. Certain skins or seeds cannot be broken down. Does depend on your chewing, cooking though. Note any change of diet. Any form of brown stool is ok. This can vary. Constant yellow, pale could be a problem with bile ducts. But if your reasonably healthy and not a heavy drinker with no blood in stool ( dark being a concern) then keep an eye on it. Sure your ok but always good to get a general blood test once a year or two and depending on your age a FIT test once a year. This is the new ish blood in stool test. Bit of your under 50 with no family his tbh, it’s only going to be a piece of mind thing for you. 😉
