Yes, I have been taking Bimuno Daily Prebiotic powders since the beginning of May 2020, after I read a really long but very interesting post on here and I do feel that it has helped a lot: instead of having diarrhoea nearly every day, I have only had it one day since taking the Bimuno.

But I would advise anyone to perform search on this site for things they need advice or opinions on - like Bimuno, Alflorex, Amitriptyline, etc ;-) And if you do that, you will find several posts about Bimuno ;-)

Thank you for your reply I suffer fro constipation and diarrhoea as well . I contacted the company and they said to start with 1/2sachet of the daily . When do you take it night or morning . I will look up the links and see what it says . I’m always a bit anxious about taking anything new .

Well, I take one sachet in the morning, sprinkled on my breakfast cereal. On the box, it says the recommended daily dose is 1 sachet.

I was very sceptical about bimuno but thought I would give it a go. It does seem to work and alleviates a lot of my symptoms but you also need a good pro biotic taken at the same time. I would buy the pastilles for starters as the dose is 2 per day. The pastilles seem to work better for me than the powder but that may be due to the spaced dose and additional pro biotics. Best of luck

Thank you for your help . I’ve purchased the sachets so will try them . And see and can buy pastels . I take yakult drink as well so I will continue taking it as well . And see how it goes . I’m always weary of taking new stuff but it helps to get some feed back . Thank you 😁

Im the same. It can be exhausting trying a new product, especially where guts/bowels are concerned at the effects can last a few days and mess up work/sleep patterns. It hasn't be a complete solution but its definitely made a big difference to me. I would stress that the pro biotics are also key. Its those that ive had the biggest problem with. Some of them gave me terrible bloating and flatulence. One of them was a fairly expensive one too. Quest, which seem to be a mid price product work best for me. The trouble with some of them is they also contain vitamin D which can cause constipation so bear that in mind when pairing bimuno with pro biotics.

I haven't tried Bimuno. It contains Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) which is a FODMAP found in things like legumes & pulses. In theory I would say that if you have a gut bacterial imbalance and you feed your gut GOS, you could end up feeding the bad bacteria and give yourself symptoms. I agree with gurgleguts that it would probably be best to take a good probiotic such as Alflorex or Symprove initially, wait for symptoms to die down (if they help you) and then add in Bimuno to give an extra boost to your gut microbes to help the good bugs develop further once the probiotic has kicked the bad bacteria into touch. I am just thinking this theoretically though.

I'd be interested to know whether anyone who takes Bimuno gets flatulence from it or not. I have been trying out Optifibre to help with constipation. It is also has prebiotic like qualities like Bimuno, but I do find I get a level of flatulence on it, which isn't so bad whilst I am staying a home a lot, but could be more embarrassing in future when I am out and about more.

Does optifibre help with your constipation . I’ve been taking the bimuno foe a week now just 1/2 a dose . It’s not made my symptoms worse but I don’t no if it’s working . My bum are not as loose bu soft but still hard to pass .. I have a little wind with it but it relieves the pressure I feel . But doctors are limited on what the no. Also it’s hard getting to see them . Feel I’m wasting their time. Will give bimuno another few weeks .

Optifibre has helped with the constipation, though I still need excessive fibre intake on top of the Optifibre to achieve a BM. I was told I have a long loopy colon, which is why I need the extra fibre bulk to push things along. It might be worth trying the bimuno for some more weeks.

I’m so confused at everything to be honest . Doctors no help as they just say you had all the tests you’ve got diverticulitis and slow track bowel . Fed up and I take constella 290 and a laxido at night . I tried the aliflora but ended up with pain under my right rib . So tried it for 10 days but didn5 think it helped . So took yakult and 2kiwis a day . Go between constipation and diarea . So just grasping at straws . Someone suggested margnesium cite tablets but unsure again . Doctor gave me fibre gel but that made everything worse . And with lockdown it’s been hard to get seen by doctor . But just at the had enough stage under dietians but not seen her for 3 months .i cut out gluten and dairy made no difference did that for 1 month . Sorry for rant and spelling but sometimes it so hard to stay positive . I also was given citropan antidepressants butit didn’t agree with me . . Thank you for your help .

Was it Alflorex you tried for 10 days? They say a good test for it is 4 to 6 weeks, but can be longer in some people. Sometimes any side effects eventually settle down. In terms of fruit I find that I need many portions per day - 8 prunes for breakfast, then 1.5 oranges before lunch then one of these high fibre fruit: 1 pear or 5 dried apricots or 90g raspberries or 2 kiwis before dinner. Oranges contain a natural laxative in them and I find they are more potent than 2 kiwi particularly if I have 1.5 oranges rather than just 1. Though as you are aware if you add anything new in, it needs to be done slowly - one at a time.

I used to take 800mg+ of Magnesium Oxide. I used to take these for a regular bowel movement when having to be low fibre:

myvitamins.com/vitamins/mag...

- unfortunately out of stock at the moment.

I used to start around 800mg at bed time on an empty stomach, then increment by 100mg (1 pill) each night until I got a response the next morning or the morning after. Most of it goes straight to your bowels where it draws in water to bulk out stools.

This worked well when I was low fibre, but when I started to introduce fibre it became more unpredictable (either not working well enough or too well), so I had to give it up.

In terms of cutting out foods just dairy/gluten may not be enough. Presumably you've looked at FODMAPs (I think we've discussed this before and I've mentioned it in many of my other posts) - though it could make you more constipated. You can do a FODMAP elimination & reintroduction diet systematically, so you can be really clear on what is affecting you. Ideally under the support of the dietitian - they should be giving you hand outs for it.

In relation to getting support, you should be able to get phone consultations with both your doctor and your dietitian. Sometimes it can be being a case of being a bit pushy.

Yes it was alflorex but only for 10 days . Every time I phone he just tells me I’ve had all the tests and it’s trial and error . . Consultant was worse he told me I had diver and narrowing of the bowel by scar tissue . His words where I’ve not got a magic wand just laxatives and consttella 290 . And try high fibre . Seen another specialist and it was just the same . Had all the tests endoscopy colonoscopy X-ray with special drink and ultra sound . Even seen pain clinic specialist but nothing seems to ease the pain . So I’m willing to try anything . I just eat kiwis strawberries and prunes . But only tin oranges in juice . So will try fresh oranges . I’ve lost over 2stones in weight . Only saw dietians 2before lockdown and now all cancelled . Just got to the stage that no matter what I eat or don’t eat . Bowel goes between diarea oily tar and pelts . But now just soft bum which are hard to pass . Sorry for all the rant but sometimes it just helps to tell somebody who knows and someone you don’t know . 💕

Just reread your post as you say you’ve got a long loopy bowel . That is what I was told to slow transit .ive been taking kiwis but only one after breakfast then one after dinner and other days take 6 prunes for breakfast but like you say I will slowly up the fruit intake . I tried to get speaking to a consultant but no luck . Dietians as well. .
