Accepting IBS

After 7 years of denial, I finally accept that I have IBS-D. My stomach isn't needy, dramatic, I have an intestinal condition that causes me extreme pain and bad diarrhoea sometimes for weeks! I am so glad I found this forum, I do not feel so "alone" in this anymore. I wanted so desperately to be healthy, to not have my body fight me, but I guess it isn't all bad to know it really isn't life-threatening, just extremely inconveniencing.

I recently started taking Mebeverine and Acidophillus supplements after a 3-week flare up and I am feeling much better. I hope this streak lasts.

Hi

What tests did your GP give you to diagnose IBS?

Hi :), its a bit of an unusual story.

I was diagnosed in 2013 (I'd had the pain and symptoms for 6 years then). I run a barium enema, stool, urine, blood tests. I did an ultra sound too. They were all clean and didn't show any anomalies, so the diagnosis was made from elimination (that's what she said). Thanks for asking.

OK that's good, you will find a lot of support on this site so welcome.

I take Mebeverine time release caps when needed they do help. Keep a food diary and see if any foods set you off. Good luck!

Thanks Linley. Have you been on Mebeverine for long? When was your diagnosis?
