Firstly, you need to contact your GP or GI team, to ensure it is a flare caused by the sugar, because it seems a drastic reaction to an almost, everyday problem. You can then start to sort out he problem by exclusion and inclusive dietary amendments.
Apple is a high fodmap food, which contains sorbitol, which draws water into the intestines (like a laxative does) and can cause diarrhea in some people. As long as you have been formally diagnosed with IBS the GP can refer you to a dietitian to take you through the fodmap elimination and reintroduction diet if you haven't done this already.
Hi Pinchy, I get this if I over do the sugar. It took me years to work out that sugar wasn't for me. If I have more than a very small amount I get the same symptoms as you. For me, it causes osmotic diarrhoea as my colon tries to get rid of the sugar as fast as possible. I also get sweating all over, my skin goes grey and I feel I might pass out or die. A bit dramatic, but that is how it gets for me. Now I know, I limit my sugar intake to an absolute minimum. That said, I agree with FReedman that this needs investigating so you know what you are dealing with.
No problem, I hope it helps. I think we might be part of an exclusive club.
