Hi, I now feel generally unwell feeling sick, headache, general lethargy and of course pain under left ribcage and trapped wind. It scares me to death I always think I've got cancer I was 60 this year and I've had Ibs since I was 20. I'm off to the doctors tomorrow and I'm scared she will find something awful which makes me panic sorry to be waffling on. Non of my medication is working well does anyone have any suggestions?

I wish I could say it only gets better from here, but..... We have to make our own fun and our own better. Do you have diarrhoea? If you have trapped wind, then at least you are not upsetting other people who are near you with the normal stinky smell. (See, every cloud has a silver lining)

Seriously though, drink plenty of water (as close to ice cold as you can take it), take a couple of paracetamol or other headache solutions, and cuddle up with a pillow tucked right in to your ribcage and belly, and lay on the sofa and switch on the TV or radio, and just try to relax.

Hi, how are you feeling today? I'm 62 in February and have had IBS since my late 20s. I very rarely think I have cancer, why do you think the way you do? There is no evidence to suggest people with IBS will go onto get cancer anymore than anyone else. In fact, it's probably more unlikely as we are taking note of what is happening inside of us on a daily basis.

PS I am not meaning to sound dismissive of the way you feel, I'm just curious why some people (quite a lot of people it would seem) think the way you do and I don't generally feel like that. Perhaps it's because only the people that think about it being cancer would post about it when people like me would not post that we don't generally think we might have cancer. If you see what I mean.

Thanks for the post. I'm one of those people who constantly fear my IBS symptoms might mean I have cancer 😔 I've only been diagnosed for a couple of years but I think my fear is that I want to be around for my children, at least until they are adults...no guarantees in life I guess! I appreciated the positive perspective ☺️

Bowel and stomach cancer run if that's the word in my family although I'm the only person who has had Ibs. I've been to the doctors today and she's suggested I start the fodmap diet. She had a good feel of my gut area and she couldn't feel anything.

Oh that makes sense as you have a lot of it in the family. I hope she has put your mind at rest at bit. Let us know how you get on with the fodmap diet. Is she referring you to a dietitian for this?

Have you tried buscopan which is available over the counter.

I suffer from the same symptoms as you and have done for 23 years or so.

It's no joke and I totally understand.

I suggest that you put your cards on the table and say it is affecting your quality of life.

If you have to go for tests please do so.

You owe ithat to yourself.

Good luck.

David.

Hi there

I'm 60 and have to say I very rarely think about cancer as I've had so many tests and keep a close eye on symptoms so know if there is anything that I don't normally have then I will take a note of it. Also, I take travel sick tablets for the nausea and they work really well for me (I use the Stugeron or Boots own which are exactly the same). I also drink Pukka Three Ginger Tea and that works well as well as it tastes good sweetened with a little coconut sugar.

The only pain relief that works for me as Paracetamols and a hot water bottle, Buscupan does nothing for me but we are all different and they may work for you.

I hope the docs went well today.

Buscupan does nothing for me either I've tried all sorts of different medication over the years the only thing that works for me is Zentiva Dicycloverine 20 mg and they are hard to get.
