Hi everyone, so got call from the hospital today to say there was a slot for this Sunday for my colonoscopy! So scared and just hope I finally get some answers 😭
Update : Hi everyone, so got call from the... - IBS Network
Update
You will get answers and please don't be scared it will all be over very soon. Let us know how you get on and Good Luck!
I'm not holding my breath out for getting answers as keep getting told its probably just ibs 😭 I'm actually more scared of the cannula
IBS can be totally debilitating, don't feel bad or let down if that's your diagnosis, it is a process of elimination and hopefully nothing sinister is going on. You must be in a bad way to have a colonoscopy and most of us have been there. I have been ill for nearly a year and still no diagnosis, my consultant won't call it IBS or IBD. Best of luck, try to relax and hopefully you take the sedation and it's not too traumatic for you. Let us know x
Canullars rarely bother me now . I have had several CT scans since 2016 with contrast. Mostly their painless, I find vampire nurses taking my blood without care more painful. lol good luck.....
Had my bloods taken a lot recently and still really painful for me, and I got my tonsils out when I was 4 and I remember getting the cannula then, traumatic expiernce. With regards to ibs I was already diagnosed with it in 2013, and before I hardly ever went to the toilet and had the abdominal cramps, I'd rather be back in that state as its a million times better than this
Please don’t be scared. If you can get someone to pick you up after the procedure then you can have a sedative to help you relax and you won’t feel anything really.
The worst part for me was the prep! To make you laugh look up Billy Connelly colonoscopy on YouTube. He described it to a tee and with much humour of course!! But the actual colonoscopy is a breeze, I watched mine in the screen, quite fascinating. At least as you say you will get answers or some peace of mind that all is normal🤞
Hope all goes well, the staff will look after you and really it doesn’t hurt.
I'm terrified of needles and the cannula so the sedation is scaring me, and I just have a feeling it'll be painful, just any time I'm told something is uncomfortable it's always extremely painful for me
I'm similar to you in terms of anxiety levels - I have blood tests every few months and still worry about needles , but please be assured that the colonoscopy will be ok with sedation and a mate to go home with you at the end. The prep is the worst part and once you get through that, you will be fine. Picture good things to think about doing after the precedure. Also if everything is fine, ask for a SeHCAT test - which is a capsule (no needles!) you take and go back for results the following week- read up on BAD/BAM.
Hi Emsky
I’m the same I have mine booked for 25th November and I’m so nervous! I’m also not holding my breath for some answers 😭 Sorry I wasn’t any good but let me know how you get on! Sending you lots of luck, love and well wishes x
I was scared too, but the prep was the worst part because it takes a long time and is a bit tedious. I had the sedation, didn't feel a thing, but was able to see my insides on the screen. Fascinating. Afterwards they gave me something to eat and I had my son pick me up from the hospital . Good job as I was slightly tiddly from the sedative. It was no where near as bad as I imagined, and if I ever need another, I won't be anxious about the procedure.
I had one of these in 2016, where they found a diverticulitis. While in hospital for a bronchial infection. I found the procedure slightly uncomfortable, but often the staff are so good, and it takes virtually just 20 minutes top. Agreed, the awful Prep is Far far worse than the procedure believe me !!
You will be fine Its not scary. Hope you get a good report
You'll be fine! It's not that bad, and they will tell you afterwards how it went and if they took biopsies! All over in 15 mins or so! If you can help it try not to have any sedation or gas, you'll feel fine afterwards if you don't!
100% going to need sedation I'd rather just be totally knocked out though
Hi everyone had my colonoscopy, I got sedation but don't really think they gave me anything as was totally awake and aware of everything, as expected the colonoscopy was painful, they didn't see anything so had 10 biopsys taken so hoping they come back with something as doctor said if nothing from them then I'm stuck like this indefinitely
