Hi guys. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about my ibs and how bad it gets when I’m stressed and how I have had a flare up since I moved house last year and now I have started a new job. Two of the most stressful things in life so I guess it’s no surprise my ibs has reared it’s ugly head. Anyway, someone mentioned aloflorex previously and since then I have also seen it advertised on my new works website, I work for the nhs now so this made me think maybe there is something worth trying. However I’ve seen it’s about £25 per pack and I wondered if it was worth that, as that’s an awful lot of money I can’t really afford alongside my Imodium repeat prescription (I think I’m keeping them in business- this is the only thing that helps my ibs!) and peppermint capsules I also buy (along other meds for overactive bladder) So my question is had anyone tried it and does it work? I do question if my anxiety is so bad that it overrides any ibs medication anyway but I’d love to be wrong.
Thanks guys

Alflorex - had it before and it made me so depressed and bad mood I quit - not worth it and also if you look at the ingredients in it and check them out it is not what I call a clean and healthy product to take - one of the ingredients is something they put in washing powder - trial and error with probiotics but have a look at Optibac/Bioglan and also if bloating is an issue look at L.Rhamnosus
I used them for about 2 weeks and although it helps control IBS-d to some degree, they gave me the most painful bowel movements and cramps! It said to take for at least 4 weeks to see difference but I just couldn't do it. I sold the remaining 2 weeks on Ebay, so could be an option if you're worried about money? I've heard of cases they've been a miracle and other cases they've made it worse. But at least you can say 'I've tried that' x
To be honest what works for some people wont work for others. I would say it's worth give it a try. I have tried many many probiotics and among the one that are considered the best for IBS Alflorex is the cheapest and for me it worked well, really reduced my symptoms and helped have a calmer stomach.
Whereas peppermint didn't do any difference for me. So it is a hit or miss. I have been taking it for two month now and it really helps me having better days. But I don't rely only on that, I do a lot of other alternatives therapies, reflexology, hypnotherapy gut related, behaviour therapy, meditation and sport help me a lot just feeling better.
I believe a lot in the brain gut axe and I am convinced that my IBS is a reflexion of my anxiety issues so in my case those therapies really help me relax and feel better too. But I do have days where ibs is just there making your day being just s....
I took a new job just as you did and my anxiety came back in force what lead me to...Alflorex. There are others recommended but those are more expensive (VSL3 or Symprove).
I hope you find whatever works the best for you and don't give up! The sun shines for everybody
Hi Lucy I have been on Entersol gel for just over two weeks and it really helps my Ibs D. I only take it twice a day and it is rather expensive but it works for me. I also take mebervine and acidophilus non dairy. I have not tried Alflorex but would be interested to see if it works for you. Good luck xx
I‘ve been taking Alflorex for 4 months and found it very effective until recently when I had a severe flare-up so I had to resort to mebeverine/ peppermint oil. So it’s not a perfect answer. If I have more flare ups I’ll stop taking it as it’s very expensive. It’s very frustrating.
