Hi, anyone had a colonograhy (ct scan) and had to drink Gastrografin two days before hand? Was so scared of colonoscopy they decided to give me ct but now I’m hearing this ones painful as they inflate Bowel with air to take images and can’t have sedation, is this true that it’s painful?

Colonograhy...
I know for me it was more uncomfortable to have air introduced into me for a Flexsig than the Colonoscopy where I was sedated. Honestly when I was out I had the best sleep of that entire year. Prep sucks for all of them.
I found it fine and a little uncomfortable , but in no way painful . The feeling g is gone straight after its over . I did not have any sedation or anything .
I had a disasterous attempted colonoscopy a few years ago, too much pain inspite of sedation, didn't work. They couldn't do it and gave up. So a few weeks later I had a colonography in Imaging Department. Worst bit was the laxatives all over again the day before the procedure. The procedure itself was easy compared with the colonoscopy. They don't go far upwards and the only difference is that they can't remove polyps if there are any shown. The pictures taken for what they are looking for for diagnosis are the same. A much much better option as far as I am concerned. I don't remember anything about air.
They couldn’t complete my colonoscopy as I was in too much pain so was referred for colongraphy as above the prep so soon after the last lot was a pain especially when she said oh it didn’t go straight through some! I was petrified because of the colonoscopy but the air tube went in barely an inch and u can’t feel that
.layed on back to start and it was bareable the girls said I could press button and they would stop and the air would stop and pain would go I instantly but I didn’t n need to
Then onto stomach was a bit painful but the let me rest a minute and it was ok
Hi Curly, I can understand your anxiety about this. I felt that the many laxatives and stuff you have to take beforehand were awful. The actual Colonoscopy was uncomfortable, verging on painful. But they upped the sedative and I was ok. This form of colonoscopy did at least allow them to take several biopsies (10 in my case) if they see anything at all they want to have a closer look at, which isn't possible via the CT version. Might I suggest you talk to them again re more sedation for a colonoscopy, simply to have to avoid having to go through a conventional one after IF they see anything they think warrants a biopsy? Also, I might say, the discomfort from the colonoscopy has no lasting effects at all.
Hi , had this done earlier this year , like you I was apprehensive but I was fine . The Gastrofin was ok and got to work after a couple hours -just prepare yourself with gentle wipes and some Vaseline so you don’t get sore . On the day it was fine , yes it’s a bit uncomfortable but it’s not life threatening, I had no sedation at all . I know it’s different for everyone but if I had to and I hope I don’t , I would go through it again . I must say the hospital I went too the clinical staff were amazing , I even had tea and toast brought by them -and no it wasn’t private. Good luck
Thank u this is good to know 🙂
It’s also a different type of gas/air they told me and that as fast as they put it in its absorbed by the body so it doesn’t build up hence why your hair machine running the whole time
I also went in tenna pants 😂 was worri d I hadn’t finished (I worry about everything!) when I mentioned it to the scan ladies (as I was embarrassed) they said good idea lots do!
