I do feel hopeless too. I’m anxious all the time apart from when I’m home where i am safe. I wish I could help but I am really struggling myself. All I can say is that I’d pick a different therapeutic style, I am training to become a psychologist and CBT and virtual reality therapies have produced many positive results with anxiety related symptoms.
Anxiety and IBS is definitely a very real issue. I suffer from it and try to manage it daily. I wake up daily and have no idea what the day will bring. So knowing that and thankfully with many years of manipulating my job situation I have some flexibility to work from home on some days and many accrued sick days that I can use if needed.
IBS is a struggle daily for most here, how you decide to manage that is key as it can be a snowball and symptoms will beget more symptoms. Anxiety leads to more gut issues etc etc. You need a plan a good GI Dr or better a functional medicine Dr can help you establish a plan. By plan I mean a set of things you try to help control symptoms and then a plan for if those do not work. Find a Dr that looks at you as an entire picture vs. just someone to try out new drugs on. Many IBS patients can find some control via diet and exercise.
I am not a Dr. but it is key to have a plan of attack and in the end know that everyone in the world has issues, and those that criticize others will get their karma train rolling over them at some point. Sadly the fact that IBS is a set of issues that can put us all into super embarrassing situations does not help. I have to see customers and meet with customers daily. I have started off many a meeting with the statement, "If I run out of here mid meeting, its not you guys" its my ice breaker on my bad days. I also work with ambulance, Fire and Police people so its even a better ice breaker.
So in the end anxiety is what you make it. It will 100% rule your life if you let it.
I can totally relate to what you are saying. Im hoping the doctors will help and i don’t want to use medication if i can help it, i know i will rely to much on it. Everyday i get up and i do push myself to get on with it but sometimes you get to a point where you have your down days and its all to much. I just keep thinking to myself how i used to be and thats my goal to get back to that. I always give myself positive words when I get through a tough day. Just so nice to chat to people that know exactly what your going through.
