Does anyone drink complan, the original flavour to help with losing out from restriction. Recently been thinking about it but so worried all the indgredients in it could make me sick

E.g. the maltodextrin, the glucose syrup, the milk and any sugars...

has anyone ever had bad experiences with it.

Also worried as I once tried fortijuce and frusibenjucy and within hours of drinking them became very shaky and ill and like i was going to throw up and really don’t want to go through that again 😞

Only helpful answers please not judgey ones, thanks x

I have IBS but I also have rheumatoid arthritis which can cause quite a bit of weight loss during a flare up, as did one of the meds I was on for it, as it decreased my appetite. So I started using Complan (the strawberry flavoured one, though) to try and regain weight and make sure I was getting all the nutrients I needed. I did not have any repercussions. However, everyone is different so can't really say whether you will be able to tolerate it or not. Sorry, not much help, really, but just wanted let you know your post has been read!

Thank you for your experience, glad it was good for you I was just thinking if there was anything in it that could cause problems, do you think the maltodextrin could be something that could cause issues as it’s a sugars

I'm not really qualified to give you any advice on that I'm afraid, as am still trying to work out a common factor with my own IBS symptoms! I think you probably need to speak with your GP to get referred to someone who is qualified in nutrition. x

You might consider seeing a dietician, as Little toad suggested. There may also be some other meal replacements that have healthier ingredients.

Ok I will, but out of interest do you know of any??

I am in the US & not sure where you are. Here there is Ensure, Boost and some others. I am not sure what the exact ingredients of these are, though. There are also some that are more "medical" and that a nutritionist could advise on, or a doctor.

Hi, I had a very bad time about 18 years ago after trying prozac which did not agree with me and made my ibs worse. I was just being so sick and losing weight. My mum suggested I try complan and after just once glass I felt much better and stopped being sick and went back to normal (for me anyway). Another time about 10 years ago I again found I was losing a lot of weight and I started having slimfast at lunchtime rather than eating food in order to not go back to the toilet in the afternoon. Again it worked in a fashion and I gradually put my weight back on. I would add that I do drink normal milk, I have tried other types of milk but they always make me feel worse (kind of more constipated but still want to go). Don't know if this will help but it might be of some use to you.

Maureen.

Hi Memimck1,

I wish I'd taken out shares in Complan many years ago as I'm sure I've kept the company in business over the years! I always have some in in case my IBS flares up or when my anxiety stops me eating. The only thing I've wondered about is the fat content because it is supposed to bulk you up but I've never noticed any weight gain from it. I guess the fat could be collecting somewhere inside but I'm not on it all day every day so hopefully it balances out.

I also drink a couple of glasses of milk a day and thankfully that too has only had good effects for me. As someone who doesn't enjoy food much - except for sweet things... - I think both of these drinks have kept me going and well stocked in goodness over the years. Others may advise you of the downfalls but I would struggle sometimes to manage without both! Good Luck!
