Questran availability

Hi , does anyone else take Questran? I've been taking it for a few months now and it helps enormously. When I take my prescription in the chemist always has to order it and it usually comes in within 2 days. I took my last one in 10 days ago and he hasn't managed to get any yet and doesn't know when or if he will be able to get anymore. I took my last sachet yesterday, I have just started a new job and can't bear the thought of going back to diarrhoea every day. Anyone else having problems getting it?

I am in the US and not having any problems filling my prescription. Mine is labeled as cholestyramine so not sure if mine is the generic form but it works. I have been taking it for four years. I would suggest contacting the pharmaceutical company directly to ask them about the availability.

Good luck

If you can`t get any some people have very good results with Enterosgel which has similar effects. It is expensive and you can`t get it on prescription but it might help until you can get more Questran. I got it on the internet but I believe Boots stocks it

I too have been taking Questran/cholestyramine for several years and had a supply problem about two years ago. To begin with I took the prescription to several chemists but also wrote to the company and got a very helpful response. Since then I have had no problems getting it from either Boots or Superdrug. Good luck!

Thank you for all your replies. I always use the same small chemist, I will phone Boots and see if they can get it. Dreading been without it now as it has helped a lot.

Am also having a supply problem. It happens every couple of years or so for different reasons. Teva also supply colestyramine powders under their own brand name. Generally if one brand has a supply problem there is a knock-on problem with the other brand. My pharmacist recommended getting my prescriptions as soon as the GPs computer system allowed and building up a backup supply at home. In the meantime keep collecting your prescription forms to help with this. They are valid for 6 months. I once got some from a village pharmacy where they had been ordered but not collected by someone else. Try going off the beaten track with a telephone enquiry. Teva has an efficient customer enquiries team.

Hi, I did phone the supplier and they said Questran light is available until Questran is again so the chemist got me that. I don't think it works as well as the other but is better than nothing. I thought Questran was bad to drink but the light is horrendous, like trying to drink wallpaper paste 😀
