Sudden diahrrea

I woke up this morning as usual and straight away felt my belly was bad, had a few bouts of very watery diahrrea which seemed like something out of a comedy film. Literally shooting out of me. Had it all day then, sick on two occasions, an it's now teatime and my rear end is burning. Sorry for the graphic description but don't know how else to describe it. I was absolutely fine yesterday and I have 3 children living with me and none of them have it. Even my 3yr old who doesn't leave my side. Any ideas on what this is and how to stop it would be greatly welcomed.

Have you been diagnosed with any form of IBS? If not, it sounds like a typical bout of food poisoning/flu. But if it happens regularly and you haven't been to a doctor, you should book an appointment for peace of mind. :) Otherwise if you do know you have IBS, it does sound like an IBS attack which is common

Sounds like a bug/food poisoning as ibs doesn't usually have vommiting as a symptom. If it happens regularly you need to see your gp.

Does anyone know how I'd be able to know for sure if it's food poisoning or a bug? As there's only one meal I've eaten in the last week that none of my children ate too, and they are all fine. Seems like that may well be the case so may have to contact food standards agency as the meal I ate where no one else did was from local Chinese :/

The only way to find out would be to go to the doctors and get a pot from them for a stool sample. I was poorly many years ago for 2 weeks, I didn't have diarrhoea or vomiting, just felt sick and lethargic for 2 weeks and had no appetite. I ended up going to the doctors, they took a stool sample and phoned me back a few days later and said I had Salmonella. It certainly sounds like food poisoning to me.

I hope you are feeling a little better now but definitely go to the doctors and ask for a pot for a stool sample.

Best of luck
