Metaformin and diverticula.

Hi I have diverticula,and t2 diabetic.I was taking metaformin for diabetes had to stop because it upset my diverticula so much it made me very I'll.please beaware off metaformin and side affects.molly6

Interesting. I have just asked my GP to take me off Metformin. He agrees that the side effects from Metformin are not helping but all he did was refer me to the Diabetic Nurse! Saw a Healthcare Assistant who just did the normal diabetic review and ignored me when I said I wanted to stop taking it. In fact I don't think she even understood what I was saying but just sat there smiling. PLEASE give me somebody I can have an intelligent conversation with. I am going to ask GP to refer me back to hospital to deal with the IBS etc. I have had awful virus for past week with heavy cold and cough which has started the IBS flare-up and I am taking so many pills I rattle when I walk ha ha.

Molly6. I went to a diabetic meeting through my GP where there were almost 150 people all diabetics,where we were aloud questions and answers. So I asked the question diabetes and diverticula, and metaformin, I was told by a primarily nurse I should not be taking metaformin at all,I was advised to go to my GP ,which I did and stopped taking metaformin.I am diet controlled now and the IBS has never been better.
