Ex Lax Not Working.....

I am in my 60's and do hope some of you will be able to answer my question please. Will EX Lax maximum strength always work? I ate a piece of fish from Captain D's yesterday and a little of a bake potato and a small amount of salad. I do suffer from IBS too! I woke up last night with my stomach feeling like l needed to use the bathroom. But can not pass anything. I took 2 Ex Lax and nothing has happened accept being bloated. I just wonder though has anyone experienced ex-lax not working or any laxative?

Using laxatives all the time makes your bowel very lazy, and yes, it will get use to a particular sort, and yes it will become inafective, you need to go and see your G.P and get some advice on what will be best for you, in light of your IBS. You must seek urgent medical advice if you experience severe abdominal pain, pain that is different , or sudden vomiting.

Thank you very much. I did have a bowel movement and l started eating better and taking in my Fiber like l am supposed too. Colonscopy has been done, Ct scan has been done and also x-rays and found nothing wrong. Which l am so glad for that! I do appreciate the advice! My eating has dwindled since l have IBS. I do appreciate the advice!!

I eat hardly nothing and worry all the time about this. I have went to Gastrogist which is one of the best doctors. And primary care doctors i have been told the same thing. Have had test after test and nothing found. But told l need to eat more fiber and eat! Which l do not want to eat because of afraid of being constipated or pain in my stomach. Sometimes l wonder if l worry to much and it has become an obsession! I know l should not worry so l guess since l have been told nothing is wrong with me! Nothing has been found! Eat!! Maybe if l would eat l would have bowel movements more regularly! Thanks Stewart DS for responding. I do appreciate it!
