Hello all, i was diagnosed with IBS when i was 16 (i am now 24) and the main issue i have is bloating and more specifically increased flatulence issues ie i Fart all the time! It really gets me down and specifically with my boyfriend as he doesnt understand that sometime i cant help it and dont know that it is going to happen. i have tried no carbs in my diet. i exercise alot (i am a PE teacher and avid gym goer/Netball player). Does anyone have any tips that would be able to ease this embarressing side effect of IBS.

That is my main problem as well. Have you explored the low FODMAP diet? It wasn't 100 percent successful for me, but I found it did make a difference, and improve the quality of life for a significant number of IBS patients. It may only be one or two foods that are the main issue, e.g. wheat, onions and/or garlic.

Hi, this is my problem as well and highly uncomfortable and embarrassing within a relationship. I have tried the following with no success

Silicol gel

Kolanticon gel

Charcoal tablets

Iberogast

Following fibre menace guide (very low veg and no fruit)

Peppermint tea

Fennel seeds

Windeze

Buscupon

Mebeverine

Amitryptilline

Lepicol powder

Gluten free

Acupuncture

Herbal treatments via Chinese doctor

Literally anything that I read up about that says helps with wind I will try and have spent a lot of money as I am desperate to live and eat normally without worrying about this problem. It always affects my relationships and I could never see myself living permanently with a man as first thing in the morning I need to pass a lot of wind and last thing at night .

I have plenty of exercise walking a springer spaniel 2 hours a day. I am a very stressful person and ibs makes me worse it's a vicious circle.

I Have just bought the book The Gut Makeover and will give this diet a go when I get back from my holiday. It's a 4 week plan that basically cleanses your gut from all processed food.

I keep reading and researching hoping to find the right cute for me, I hope you find something soon .

It helps to know that you are not on your own with this problem.

Good luck

Indeed try reading any decent book on stomach bacteria.

My daughter started g.a.p.

It's unbalanced bacteria in the gut causes all manner of problems ..makes sense really We have started her on priobotic tablets (7 bacterias) and magnesium....its early days but she has been to the toilet without prescribed meds !!

Let us know how you do...good luck

My daughter on research homeopath study and we are trying my daughter on priobotic vitamins.. magnesium . It's doing something . She went to the toilet without any prescribed meds yesterday. It can be expensive . We are aiming to control her adhd as she can't take any meds. Wrecks her stomach... The gut and psychology book is well worth a read ...good luck

Try Charcoal tablets after every meal worked for me

How many tablets do you take each dose? Don't they cause constipation?

I've tried almost every probiotic that exists and some seem to make the wind worse, even after a settling in period. I'd be pleased to know if anyone has found a probiotic that helps. I think one of the issues is that some probiotics contain FOS and that's not good as it is a Fodmap.

If you are trying charcoal tablets I find Braggs are the best so far. Better than Holland and Barrett which didn't work for me. Alas they are not always foolproof but they do seem to help. :)

I tried Holland and Barrett's and they worked for me but you have to keep trying until you find something that works for you

Not a cure but cutting down on wheat really makes a difference. Also try oil of peppermint.

try dairy free diet ..no milk ..no cheese .. or icecream or cream based sauces for pasta ..if you feel better that means you have (lactose intolerance ) and you will just have to avoid them or replace them with lactose free products ..Good luck

This is just an update as a couple of members asked how I got on with Gut Makeover.

This really really helped my flatulence problem within amazed me as I thought a diet high in veg would make it worse! I feel so much better but it is a way of life and I can't go back to eating what I did before. I take no other medication to help ibs other than probiotics. It's all about the gut bacteria.
