Severe constipation

I have been constipated for about six weeks the doc has prescribed lots of laxatives but to no avail. I have pain in one side. Does anyone know how long docs wait to do something drastic! Yvonne

I get very constipated but use suppositories they work for me.

After this length of time it's unlikely that any home remedies will be effective. I would suggest you call your GP surgery for advice. They will either arrange for a district nurse to be sent out to give you an enema or recommend you attend A&E depending on their assessment of the severity of your condition. Let us know how you get on.

Milk and molasses enema is what they give in the emergency department here. My dear friend is a nurse in the ED and she has never seen it fail to work. She also says it smells like cookies baking. 😉

I have constipation usually after a flash diarrhoea episode. Took immodium type tablets as usual after a bout and then constipation set in for about three days. Was frantic the other evening could=not sit down without severe pain 111 was a waste of time (it was a Saturday) then asked a neighbour in desperation if she has anything and she came up trumps. An unopened bottleof LACTULOSE one 15-30 dose did the trick. Will ask Dr. for a replacement of course.

As it is Lactose you would have to be sure you are not intolerant first before taking. I knew I was OK for that. I have Diverticukar disease confirmed and many things can trigger. Mine was going away foracouple of days, to a funeral I think it was stress as a result that must have caused the flare-up. Hope you can master yours.
