IBS in pregnancy

Hi all,

I'm new here, so firstly hello! I have suffered with IBS for about 2 years and control it with diet. I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and suffering terribly. Between 7am and 9am I can go 5 or 6 times with severe diarrhoea and the pain is making me sick. This on top on being pregnant is pretty horrible. Does anyone have any suggestion of what I can take during pregnancy that might help please?

I have spoken to the doctor this morning and he has requested a stool sample to just be on the safe side and also a prescription for Fybogel sachets but after reading about them I think they maybe more beneficial for constipation not diarrhoea!

sorry to hear you're suffering that much ..have you tried the regular over the counter diarrhea  drugs such as imodium ? Buscopan ? spasmomen ?

since you're  pregnant  ask your doctor first about trying them .Make sure you stay hydrated to compensate  the loss of fluids  to avoid dehydration.

Are you taking any supplements since getting pregnant ?  If you are they may contain something that you're intolerant of

Thank you for your replies. Because I'm pregnant there is very little I can take unfortunately. I'm taking a pregnancy vitamin but been taking it for a long while as it's not been the easiest of roads to get pregnant so I don't think it's that. I will see if the sample shows anything and hope the fybogel might help too x

You will be ok taking Imodium, I was prescribed it while I was pregnant, I have ulcerative colitis and was desperate ! Obviously ok it with your GP/midwife.
