I have tried soooomuch. Best was garlic and parsley tablets for s month, probiotic daily, no onions, small frequent meals, no fat if possible and only easily digested proteins ie fish, eggs. Do not lie down for at least 3 hours after eating.wishing you well.

Thank you for replying. It's all such a minefield isn't it! The herbalist has come highly recommended but then so has the nutritionist. I had a conversation with the herbalist and he said I should eat a big cooked breakfast in the morning and introduce more fat into my diet!!!! I was shocked by this, I'd have thought it would make my symptoms worse and clearly it contradicts what you've been told!!!!

I too have been told strange things but can really say the above has helped greatly. The tablets get rid of any fermentation going on. One can but try and try again until you find what works. Cheers

I saw a dietician when I was doing the FODMAPS elimination and she was very good at helping me navigate the diet. I will say, whichever you choose to see make sure they specialize in IBS and/or have digestive issues of their own. Most of my health practitioners have no idea, and just throw the Canada food guide my way or have diets that fit their own purposes (ex vegetarian, paleo, etc). You want someone flexible that can help you troubleshoot your illness, not someone pushing a generic 'healthy' diet on you. I'd call and ask specifics about their IBS patients they've treated.

I have tried an exclusion diet with little success ;maybe I didn't persevere but Coffee and pastry are best to be avoided in my case The anti acid drugs were too of little benefit

I have periods of complete freedom from this rehabilitating condition

Go to the doctor and ask to see a dietician trained in the low FODMA diet or see one privately. It is scientifically proven to help 75% of IBS sufferers. Don't waste time , go for it now ! You could feel a dramatic improvement within days

Thank you all for taking the time to try and help me. I'm seeing my doctor next week so will speak to him about seeing a dietician, one specialising in ibs. I don't hold out much hope but it's worth a try x
