I tried apple cider vinegar recently. It provided some temporary relief but eventually had to go to GP and I am now taking omeprazole. Like you would prefer not to but the long term effects of reflux can be very damaging . I am not completely symptom free but I am feeling much better than before. If like me your reflux is anxiety related anything that improves your condition reduces anxiety which is half the battle.

Hope this helps

Thank you. Do you take omeprazole every day and how much? Did you dr say it should provide a once and for all cure after a complete course.

I take 30 mg once a day about 30 mins before breakfast. I have been taking it since September. I intend to try and reduce dosage when current pack is finished probably to one every other day. Hopefully will be able to reduce further. I had a similar problem about 10 yrs ago and had no problems. I am in my late 50's now and it seems fairly common for the digestive process to slow down as you get older. hope this helps

My GP is trying to wean patients off every day use of omeprazole - he says the current thinking is that it is best used a couple of times a week alternating with milder meds, because then the withdrawal acid isn't a problem. I've been on it 5 years and it works wonderfully - I'm trying to get off it now - it's hard.

ACV can be damaging to the enamel on your teeth so if you take it ensure you thoroughly rinse your month out after each use.

Also ACV increases the acidity in your stomach so if 'too much' acid if your problem than I don't think taking ACV will help.

Omeprazole is given by GPs to 'reduce acid' but what they do not check is if you have too much acid or if they are reducing your normal levels of acid in which case you will end up with another problem because your stomach needs this digestive acid to help it digest food.

Thank you for the advice. I suffer after meals sometimes although smaller amounts of food do seem to help. My worst time is at night even though I eat at least two hrs before bed. Would lemon juice help then .or bicarb with lemon juice. The horrible taste of acid reflux keeps me awake and I have to keep swallowing I assume to reduce the acid with saliva. Have taken omeprazole for three days now as getting a bit desperate but I think it might be giving me stomach ache!

I went to see my gp last night and he said that omeprazole destroys or inhibits the production of acid and the acid will come back when you stop it and presumably the reflux with it. So I have stopped using it and I am trying other medication because I need to scotch this before it gets too bad. The advice to take omeprazole only a couple of times a week makes sense. I will try the lemon and bicarb although my dr said to avoid citrus. It is so difficult to know what to do!

Kerry two things about this article so far..not read it all yet! Firstly I came across Chlorophyll a few days ago and secondly last week I got sent a link for The video mentioned in the article. I love it when things fall into place:-)
