I had a TB blood test along with other tests because my ophthalmologist was wondering if there was an underlying cause for an eye inflammation. Turns out my TB test was positive. 😳 I think I probably was exposed when I worked at a psychiatric hospital with a high risk population.
I plan to start the four month Rifampin treatment regimen next week. I’ve read, on credible websites, about the possible side effects. Since I’m allergic to penicillin, I have been assured that Rafampin isn’t in the PCN family so shouldn’t have a reaction due to that. I do want to take very good care of my liver and, well, the rest of my body, and am trying to see this as an opportunity to make some real positive changes around eating and exercise.
I’m curious if anyone is taking a particular pro or prebiotic specific to targeting the gut biome that will probably be compromised while taking Rifampin daily for four months. I do have a pharmacy consult coming up to see what they say. I’ve read a few medical journal articles on this. I also have a previously scheduled nutrition consult next week so good timing there.
I am pretty nervous about the potential side effects and hope it’s not too bad, would like to hear from others in the same boat. And really any suggestions and just what your experience has been like. Perhaps we can provide support as I know I’ll need some of that from others in treatment. Thanks!!
