Tracheal irritation

I have had a tracheal irritation feeling for 4 weeks now. I have no phlegm no fever no cough. Just constant tightness and scratchy trachea. I am not short of breath and can take in deep breaths without any wheezing. I can’t see a doctor at the moment because of covid but I spoke to GP and he can’t help. Do I do nothing? It is giving me anxiety now. It is worse in the afternoons.

I just noticed this is on a TB alert forum. I meant it to go just on a respiratory question. But now it’s here may be you can still advise.

Thanks.

Hi Julia - it’s good you seemed advice from your doctor, but he probably thinks that there is nothing worrying that can be dealt with at the moment, especially as you have no wheezing or breathlessness. However why don’t you keep a diary and see if your symptoms change in anyway. Sometimes irritation/ inflammation may cause odd feelings especially now we have pollen on the up. Speak to your doctor again if you have symptoms that worsen. But hopefully it will settle down. Good luck x

Thank you so much. Keeping a diary is a good idea. I went for a walk today and came back feeling as though I have been skiing! But I wasn’t breathless while walking. Its the oddest thing. I only went because I thought I was improving and now gone backwards. I will continue to rest. Nothing else to do right now anyway.

No your right, it’s the best time to rest! But keep active in small doses too!

Hi Julma,

How are you feeling now? The important thing with any respiratory symptoms is how quickly they resolve. If you are still feeling ill with a fever and cough after a week you should speak to a doctor and after three weeks for other ongoing respiratory symptoms.

Best wishes,

Helen
