Can TB medication affect your hearing?

I'm really worried because I have had tinitus for over a week, when I changed my TB medication. Everything sounds robotic, including my voice. It's really worrying me as I'm a musician and I need my ears to work properly

Hello Angelk181 I have read cases of people suffering from difficulties with hearing because of TB drugs. It’s very difficult to comprehend the side effects when we are all ready suffering from the effects of TB disease in itself. Maybe you could speak you your TB team to see if the can give you anymore advice?

Yes, some medicines can affect your hearing, especcially if you are taking any of the injectable drugs (ending in -mycin). You should talk to your TB team to undergo hearing test. Any damage should be reversible if you don't wait for too long.

Hearing issues are listed as a known side effect of the TB medication Amikacin/Capreomycin. TB medication in general is also associated with a range of side effects which can vary person to person.
