Liver Function Test

I felt I was doing well 4 weeks into treatment and managing small side effects. Then I had 2 bouts of severe stomach pain and ended up in A&E. Various possibilities were considered but as a side issue, bloods showed very high ALT. Very frustrated as meds now have to be stopped for a week to see what effect that has on the liver. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, how did it pan out?

I've no experience of this myself, hopefully others will step in. It is good that they are monitoring this, and your medicines can be altered if needs be, so take heart from that.

best wishes,

Helen

Pretty much the same thing happened to me in 2015 when I began treatment for TB. I was about 2 weeks into treatment, but every time I would climb stairs I would get tired which would make me cough heavily and then vomit out the food that I was struggling to eat as it was.

So one night I thought let me just sleep on the sofa. I ended up waking up at 6am coughing/vomiting blood. It then happened at around 8am and this led me contacting my TB nurse who called me in. They said they will stop the treatment for 1-2 weeks as they thought my liver was being affected by the treatment. They also gave me anti-sickness tablets.

Later on in the evening I coughed up blood again, so based on the advice of my TB nurse I went to A&E. They did an X-Ray of my chest and albeit positive, they said that chances are the blood was coming from a cut in my food pipe.

After about a week and a half, my medication was altered and restarted and that is when I started feeling better.

Hope this gives some clarification and sorry for the late reply. I only joined yesterday.
