Hi Mao-cat,

Myrin is apparently a brand name for specific TB medications, not the name of the medication itself. Check the box for the active ingredient in the Myrin and check it against the drug side effects listed here: thetruthabouttb.org/wp-cont...

Best wishes,

Helen

Thanx a lot Helen this site is very informative. I was a bit confused about tb because my mother has been taking tb tablets for 3 months now the med she's taking is Myrin which contains Ethambutol,Isoniazid,Rifampicin. She is also taking medicines to control dizziness but in spite of it she is feeling dizzy. The neurosurgeon said that this myrin Tb tablets does not cause dizziness. So what is the cause then?

Hi Mao-cat,

Rifampicin is indicated in the leaflet I gave you before as causing 'flu-like symptoms such as chills, fever, dizziness and joint pain.' This information was put together by some of the top TB Clinicians in the UK and also corresponds with several other trusted sources that we use in the UK, including the National Insitute for Health and Care Excellence (nice.org.uk) and The electronic Medicines Compendium (medicines.org.uk). The eMC has also made the patient informaiton leaflet for Rifampicin available here:

medicines.org.uk/emc/files/...

I cannot say why your Mother's neurosurgeon does not think this is the cause but they are likely to have a good reason so it is worth asking them to explain in more detail. If your mother has TB meningitis, for example, then dizziness could also be a direct result of the TB itself.

Either way, I hope your Mother's doctors are able to find a treatment that works.

Best wishes,

Helen
