Hi Inayat-bawa,

I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with TB, though I am pleased that you are receiving life-saving treatment.

First, I have to tell you that I am not a doctor and that this forum is for advice and support. We cannot give you formal medical advice.

My understanding is that TB symptoms should stop within two weeks of treatment, if you are on the correct drugs for the type of TB that you have. If you are still experiencing symptoms, it may be that your TB is drug-resistant and you need to have your drugs changed, or you may be experiencing side effects to your medications. Either way, you should talk this through with your doctor who will be able to help.

I hope this advice helps. Good luck with your treatment.

Best wishes,

Helen

I am sorry I cannot help you with your questions but I would be interested to know which hospital recognises that abdominal TB even exists please? If you cannot name the hospital perhaps just the area you are in North/South etc. Also how did they confirm it was abdominal TB and what were your symptoms? How are you now?

Thank you for the link. What type of doctor would perform a laparoscopy to test for abdominal TB? Would it be a gastroenterologist? Would you have to be under the care of a specialist TB doctor too? My doctor has agreed to do a biopsy of my ?gut by doing an endoscopy. Would that pick up TB of the small intestine?

Hi Sammy2,

As I say, we cannot provide medical advice on this service as we are not qualified doctors. I do know that TB can be diagnosed by taking a biopsy from the area that is thought to be affected which is then sent to a laboratory for testing - so it sounds like this is what is happening.

Best wishes,

Helen
