I am studying disordered eating at university which includes all forms, AN, Bulimia, Binge eating and EDNOS/OSFED . Whilst completing research I came across this site and read a lot of your stories with great sadness.

In many cases the eating disorder (ED) can be due to worries/concerns over other areas of life and the ED is a way to mange those thoughts and feeling or distract from them.

Please don't suffer in silence speak to a GP, teacher or parent/carer. The Beat website can offer some very good advice and may local group in your area.

Leeds Beckett, its a PG cert in Eating Disorders, covers MDT approach, CBTe and behaviour research and therapy - are you interested in attending?

Ed do take a lot of someone's life. I've had an ed for 26 years . Recovery a hard journey ed support groups are very helpful. GP s tend to be overwhelmed by ed. Especially if there s complex underlying issues like ptsd and toxic shame from abusive caregivers. Good luck with your educational journey.

Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry to hear that the ED has take up so much of your life. I agree that it is a complex issue to unravel someones past and the cause that result in an ED. On the plus side, its positive to hear that you find the support groups useful and that you are continuing with the difficult recovery process. I hope that inspires other people to do the same. Best wishes to you

Simplicity, I commend you for taking on a most difficult challenge of mental illness. We need more people like yourself willing to study in depth the complexity of the ED brain. I see it in my daughter everyday as to the internal struggle she goes through. I agree that is comes from a deeper worry/concern in her life. As a foster child, she came with a lot of deep hurt by her biological parents. That hurt manifested into Anorexia. I wish you much success with your studies at the university. Please keep us updated in your research. x

Thank you so much for the kind words. I work in an adolescent ED inpatient unit and its through my experience there that I have chosen to explore ED in greater depth. My hope is to be able to offer a greater help and support to the young people and their families.

I hope you and your daughter are receiving the support you need and totally agree that in the majority of cases the disordered eating is secondary to a suppressed emotion/memory. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance :)
