I'm currently at the minimum (healthy) weight for my height group, yet I have been told that I need to gain five for pounds. This is because I've missed a period, and previously lost weight from my current weight (making it seem like a dangerous place for me to my doctors). I have previously been at the weight that I'm being told to return to, and I can't stand the thought of ever being that weight again. My main memory of said weight is crying in a changing room clutching what had always been my dress size in a jumpsuit, crying because it wouldn't fit. I don't know what to do, I want my periods back again, but already being at a healthy weight makes it ten times harder to gain than it was before, not to mention those awful memories. Help.

Great you've managed to get your weight up to the minimum - I know it feels really hard to be told to gain just a little more - and suggest you need to talk to someone about how you feel around this - are you getting any counselling support - perhaps if not try the ABC helpline - they have a great support network and might help you with these thoughts you are having. I hope your periods return and that you are able to gain just that little more weight - as weight does fluctuate a couple of pounds up and down normally - it would stop you slipping below the minimum and give you just that little bit to cope should you be ill etc - but do find someone to explore your feelings about the gain and your body image/weight in general.
