Asthma 'trial'
Hi, I've been given a brown inhaler following a terrible, long cough. I had oral steroids too which helped. I'm still very confused by the difference in approach between GP and nurse! - I believe this is a trial of brown to see if my peak flow improves; it's not what it should be though could just

Very high peak flow, but very hard to breath!
I'm a bit scared lately and need help. I take a purple inhaler now having previously used Clenil Modulite and Serevent. I also have Ventolin which I am needing more and more of now, despite the improving weather etc. I never cough or wheeze, but I do get some chest tightness, visial disturbance, burning

Cough variant asthma - HELP!
If anybody has any tips on how to get a referral to a paediatrician I would be very grateful. My son was diagnosed at 11 months with asthma but we had absolutely no sign of it until he started school 18 months ago. Last year he was so poorly with this cough. The GP told us to only use brown inhaler if

Hello, After a terrible time battling chest infections for over 2 months now (two lots of steroids, two lots of abs, X-ray, multiple GP visits) I'm being given a trial of medication to see if it helps / test peak flow after 6 weeks. (Brown and blue inhalers). I haven't fully got my head round what

Only thing that seems to get me anywhere near stable is high dosages of pred 40mg. I'm on 20 mg daily maintanance have been for a year or so........ I dread to think how I'd

New Update
Hiya all, I had a Spirometer test today and would not want to do it again, The asthma nurse looked at my peak flow and looked at my Spirometer results and said i have asthma but not what type. Is it normal for them not to give me a new color inhaler ? and review in 3 months ?

Peak flow querie
My peak flow is at 450 yet it should be 571 according to online sources. I am 35 5'10 or 177 cm and male. That puts it at 80% what it should be. I have not been taking my preventative fostair 100/6 when I should. If I do should I reach the lofty heights of 571 L/min

Chest infection
Hi, I'm new to the forum but have had asthma since being a teenager. About 23 years now. I started to get a cough a week and a half ago and was self treating and using my inhalers but it has gone to my chest. I went to my GP last Thursday and was given amoxicillin and prednisolone which I've been taking

What's your asthma action plan?
I've seen lots of folk posting here who have been newly diagnosed with asthma so I thought it'd be interesting for those folks if we all shared our asthma action plans so they could see what we do to stay on top of our symptoms :) My asthma type: Cough-variant with normal SATs and peak flow during exacerbations

Peak flow doesn't very much
Is there anyone else here who has fairly normal peak flow that doesn't vary much and yet can have violent cough and need prednisone regularly for chest infections that get out of control (with only occasional and rare wheeze)? I always understood I had cough variant asthma that is vicious and sometimes

Atypical Asthma in Hospital
Hi all, I was admitted to my local hospital on Weds night with the worst attack of my life so far. This was my first time at this hospital having moved to the area only recently; other hospitals have previously sent me home even when I was in distress, because I don't present normally; 1) My pulse ox

chest infection
I have copd 2 and just done a peak flow meter reading which said 250. I have a chest infection at the moment which I have Doxycycline for. I was having breathing problems the other night so had to go to our local walk-in-centre. I haven't done a reading for a while so, don't know if it would have

Misdiagnosis?
Hi there, I have been a member of the group for about 18 months, and find it very helpful. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in 2007, but don't seem to have the symptoms described by many others on this site...I have no cough, also very little phlegm, which I thought was one of the main symptoms. I smoked

Confused by peak flow readings
Which I really shouldn't be, goodness knows I've had a peak flow metre for long enough. But I've learned one or two things from this forum that I wasn't aware of before, so I'm wondering if you wonderful people out there can help me out. As some of you will be aware, I went down with a viral infection

peak flow
Can anyone tell me what a normal peak flow reading should be? Mine is without my chest infection 200 and with a chest infection 175 and I wondered if I am on the right inhalers as there are many to choose from. I thought that a steroid inhaler if working well meant you do not have to use the reliever
