I take a large number of supplements, the most important being European milk thistle, curcumin-turmeric, berberine (Metformin equivalent), red yeast (
Lovastatin
equivalent), quercetin, capsaicin, alpha-lipoic acid, and green tea extract. I should add I became a strict vegan in late summer 2017.

I WAS taking

When
Lovastatin
was approved by the FDA, red yeast rice was not banned. The FDA attempted to do so in 1998, but the case was thrown out because red yeast rice was marketed as a dietary supplement, not as a drug. But there must be no mention by sellers that
lovastatin
is a component.

Simvastatin & Risk of Prostate Cancer Mortality.
Authors start by saying that "we investigated the effect of two types of statins (simvastatin and
lovastatin
)", but there is no other reference to
lovastatin
in the Abstract.

lovastatin
or simvastatin. The risk of major haemorrhage is increased by over 40%. This effect does not appear with other statins.

Non-PCa Prescription Drugs: Statins - Lipophilic or Hydrophilic?
Hydrophilic statins: Pravastatin & Rosuvastatin (Crestor) Lipophilic:
Lovastatin
and Simvastatin are the most lipophilic. Atorvastatin & Cerivastatin less so. I have seen Fluvastatin placed in both categories.

Cholesterol, RO 48-8071 & PCa
RO 48-8071 is getting some attention at the moment [1]. Hard to know if it is worth the fuss. RO 48-8071 is described as: "a compound initially developed as a cholesterol-fighting molecule". The compound reduces PCa cell growth in dish & mouse. "The study, “Cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor RO 48

Repositioning "old" drugs for new causes: identifying new inhibitors of PCa cell migration and invasion.
New Australian study below. "Following the completion of the primary screening assay, 33 drugs were identified from an FDA approved drug library that either inhibited migration or were cytotoxic to the PC-3 cells. Based on the data obtained from the subsequent validation studies, mitoxantrone hydrochloride

Pomegranate Juice
I copied the following from the MedlinePlus website. Sorry for the long post but I thought some might find it interesting that one juice can impact so many things. How can anyone know what drugs or supplements really do to each of us since we are all physically different, eat differently, etc.? I

Has anyone tried red rice yeast as a replacement for statins?
My new doctor is thinking about putting me onto red rice yeast to help reduce cholesterol, but from what I've read up so far it seems the active ingredient is the natural form of statin from which synthetics have been derived (the patent for
Lovastatin
in the US exists and they are trying to declassify
