Effects on Parkinson's disease patients chronically treated with L-dopa
L-dopa is the most effective drug used to date for management of Parkinson's disease symptoms. Unfortunately, long-term administration of L-dopa often results in development of motor disorders, including dyskinesias. Despite extensive research on L-dopa-induced dyskinesia, its pathogenesis remains poorly

Niacin and Butyrate: Nutraceuticals Targeting Dysbiosis and Intestinal Permeability in Parkinson’s Disease
Niacin PD patients are found to have significantly decreased niacin levels compared to age-matched healthy controls [52]. This has been attributed to both the disease itself and the medication used to attenuate motor symptoms [58]. Sinemet, the most commonly used PD medication, includes carbidopa, which

Neuronal Death
Levodopa
enters the brain through an amino acid transporter.
Levodopa
is then taken up by specific neurones in the brain called dopaminergic neurones. These specialized cells contain the enzyme AADC that converts DOPA to the neurotransmitter dopamine.

90% paralysed from the waist down when OFF the influence of L-Dopa. Does anyone share these symptoms ?
While getting up in the morning, with virtually no L-Dopa “coverage” I’m practically incapable of walking the 3 meters that separates the bed from the bathroom. The legs will simply not obey. Also during the day, if I fail to take my next dose in time, within minutes my forward motion is almost impossible

Had to switch to
levodopa
25/100 half a pill twice a day. After some months, for my curiosity, I switched back to 0,52 pramipexole, quitting
levodopa
. Now it works fine. So,one lesson , maybe what is not good today may be good tomorrow.

Anyone else taking Ongentys?
For the past 6-8 months my
levodopa
has not been doing the job. My dosage was one 50/200 mg Sinemet ER (Extended Release) and one 25/100 CR (Continuous Release) every three hours. I also was taking two Selegiline 5 mg daily. I was wearing off in 2 hours.

Tomato crop enriched with Parkinson's disease drug created

My Basic "Understanding" of PD Has Been Wrong
Maybe that's why the "gold standard" for treatment (
Levodopa
Carbidopa) has not changed for fifty years. Maybe we have all been barking up the wrong tree.

Given the short half life of
levodopa
these readings approximate the "off" state. I would like to draw your attention to the gentle upward trend of the values. Here, an increase in the values is good.
