Back to the Dr yesterday for COPD clarification
Visited the Dr yesterday as wasn't told much about my diagnosis except you have COPD, not sure how long you've got! Also the salmeterol inhaler was causing pins and needles and cramp in my hands, feet and legs! Dr told me the COPD is very mild and that I am more likely to die of something else than COPD

Can anyone tell me if a green inhaler containing Salmeterol 50 micrograph, one puff twice a day is a large dose. I was diagnosed with COPD last week and my Dr didn't tell me much not even what stage I was and at the time I did not know that even existed. I was told my lungs are equivalent to a 79 year

Hi all, I was diagnosed yesterday with COPD and have been prescribed an salmeterol inhaler. I have read all sorts on the internet including that only 1 in 20 people survive ten years after being diagnosed! I am only 49 and lost my mum last year with a combination of COPD and heart failure so I am really

Worst things people have said/what not to say to someone with a lung condition
1. "look, you're not breathing right…iiiiiin….ouuuuut…." I know I'm not breathing right, I'm having an attack! I can't breathe! 2. "take DEEP breaths!" Again, can't breathe, so... 3. "you're just panicking!" Yep, and that's why my lungs are silent, right? 4. "oh I get a cough sometimes too" Oh poor

Trying to escape side-effects, I found that
Trying to escape side-effects, I found that aspirin has beneficial effects in asthmatic circumstances. With trial and perseverance, I manage well with aspirin now, and an occasional puff of salmeterol (no steroidal content or aerosol solvent.) http://asthmavsteroids.blogspot.co.uk/

Question to help a friend.
Hello everyone with COPD Had a message from a friend living in Gosport today saying her COPD was playing up - they have told her she has the lungs of a 90 year old. She only has a ventolin inhaler - I told her she could up the dose of that if necessary but she does not have a preventative inhaler.

Somewhat belated introduction!
I probably should have introduced myself before posting about the woes of my asthma and commenting…sorry :) I am 17yo, biologically female but identify as male. Which kind of sucks but hey, that's life. I have 'hayfever', eczema and asthma (you would never have known that, would you?), and I suffer

How can my lungs get worse so quickly?!?!
I'm 17 (well, one more week and that will be true!). A year and a half ago, I had maybe mild intermittent asthma. I had a Ventolin inhaler for when I was breathless and that was it. I had had a Ventolin inhaler once before when I was 6 and I had a particularly bad chest infection and ended up with Prednisolone

NHS medication recommendations, and minerals
Hi all, as there are no asthma nurses at my current home country, doctors are God, and I never had asthma back in the UK (I miss the clear air up north!) I'm a bit at a loss about what a normal asthma therapy looks like. I have Ventolin for whenever needed and I'm supposed to use a Salmeterol powder

argh, side effects
So I was feeling better again over the last week and thought there's hope I get rid of the side effects by eventually taking less meds. This morning my lung volume was somewhat reduced again :( I have Ventolin, which only kind of works when using a nebuliser Salmeterol Montelukas At least the first

First post! Exercise and pain
Hello! This is my first post here, I was prompted by the BBC spotlight to start taking my asthma a bit more seriously, so here I am... I was wondering if anybody might have some advice on the issues I've been having. I suffer from what I'd guess is mild-moderate asthma, which I've had since I was a
